I'm just writing to report that I survived the choir performance. It actually went quite well. The choir did wonderfully on "Joy in the Morning." The women missed an entrance because apparently I didn't bring them in on "Jesus of Nazareth," but it was good otherwise. And we managed to pull out "God So Loved the World" despite that a half hour before the meeting we were working through parts. I actually got goose bumps during that piece. In any case, I'm glad it's over. We're taking a week off from choir practice next week, and then we'll prepare something easy for May.

It's always nice to be able to enjoy the fruits of labor. Glad that everything went relatively smoothly, despite the missed entrance.

So we have a musician and a runner. Do you sing when you run? Do you listen to music? If you do, what do you listen to?

I'm really not much of a singer despite that I lead the choir. And I don't sing when I run - too busy breathing. I will listen to my mp3 player while running if the weather is warm enough. If it's cold, I wear a band to keep my ears warm and if I wear headphones with it, they get squished into my ears too hard. But when I do listen to music, I usually let it random play all songs on my device. I don't normally use a play list that is just upbeat songs, for example, though I do have such a list that I have used on occasion. Probably my favorite song for running is "Extraordinary Machine" by Fiona Apple. There's also "What Is Success" by Bonnie Rait, "Start Wearing Purple" by Gogol Bordello, and a bunch of silly stuff.

Most contemporary music gets old pretty fast for me, so I listen to movie scores and classical stuff. I really like Yo Yo Ma but it's not all that upbeat, so I don't know if it makes me run faster or not. I tried listening to some audio tapes ("How to buy real estate") but it was too distracting. Still trying to figure this part of running out.
