Easy run.

5:46 am, 39° at the start, 34° at the end, 45% humidity, wind 9 SSE.

Yesterday I talked about how it was easier to bet out of bed when I have a firm obligation such as getting the kids off to school. It turns out I can hop right out of bed when I realize I've over slept and I've promised to meet someone at a certain time. I was planning to meet the Michelles at 6:15 this morning and I set my alarm for 5:00 so that I'd have ample time to get read and run at least 3 miles before meeting up with them. I looked at my clock at 4:40 and thought about getting up and running even more before meeting them, but decided against it and went back to sleep. The next time I looked at my clock it was 5:34. I had neglected to turn my alarm on. I needed to leave the house at 5:45 in order to get 3 miles in before meeting the Michelles (I could take a shorter route if I needed to). That gave me 11 minutes to get out the door. I made it in 12 minutes. And then my adrenalin must have been pumping a bit for the rush and I ran there a little faster than I normally do.

So I ran a little over 3 miles to Michelle's house and then ran 4 miles with the two Michelles, then ran a little less than 3 miles home. Then I went in my house and changed into my new Vibram Five Fingers that I bought last night at the huge gigantic REI store in downtown Denver. I want back out and did a half mile in the Five Fingers. I neglected to put my gloves back on and the temperature was dropping, so I was a little chilly on that last bit of my run, but my feet were okay. My stupid little stubby pinky toes don't like to be separated from their neighbors and they complained about about being shoved into their own little pockets in the Five Fingers, but it was bearable. Maybe they'll get used to it.

Nothing like a good adrenaline pump to start the day!!!

It's nice you "slept in" and got a little extra sleep and still made it on time. I am glad you were able to try out the five fingers. Were your feet sore or tired?

From Metcalf Running on Tue, Dec 22, 2009 at 11:03:33 from 207.225.192.66

Nice job oversleeping and still getting it all done!!! That is great! I have wondered about the FF, I have stubby little toes, they don't even spread apart much when I try to streatch my toes. I wonder if the FF would work for me. Keep us posted on how yoru toes feel :)

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Dec 22, 2009 at 11:20:45 from 24.8.167.243

No, my feet are not really sore or tired. The ground felt hard. That was really the only thing other than the complaining pinky toes. The pinky toes are fine now that I've got the shoes off.

Do you still have snow on the ground? were they okay at keeping the feet warm? Was there slush?

From TBarlow on Tue, Dec 22, 2009 at 12:13:57 from 216.194.124.36

Great miles Carolyn! Hooray for a few extra winks of sleep!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Dec 22, 2009 at 12:34:16 from 198.241.174.15

No, April, I didn't have to run through snow or slush. Some grassy areas still have left-over crusty snow, but the roads and sidewalks are clear...for now. My feet didn't really get cold. I was more conscious of my hands being cold.

Nice run! especially in the five fingers as well, I just don't see myself trying those anytime soon!

From Tracy on Tue, Dec 22, 2009 at 17:10:38 from 173.23.75.96

I've always wondered about how those things would feel. Do you have any plans for how often you are going to use them?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Dec 22, 2009 at 17:25:57 from 198.241.174.15

I don't really have a plan, Tracy, but I should. I think for now I'll just try to do a half mile at the end of my run like I did today maybe twice/week and then maybe increase the distance. I'm not sure about increasing the frequency because it takes a fair amount of time to change into them and I don't have a lot of extra time in the morning.

From Tracy on Tue, Dec 22, 2009 at 18:00:56 from 173.23.75.96

That sounds like a plan to me!

From JD on Tue, Dec 22, 2009 at 18:17:30 from 70.96.78.157

Wow! You slept until 5:34 AM. It's good to take a little break over the holidays I guess.

I'm glad you got a pair of the VFF's. I'm still on the fence on whether or not to run in them. So I look to you and others for data on how they work out. Oh, and I'm taking donations for the JDVFF fund if you'd like to contribute!

From auntieem on Wed, Dec 23, 2009 at 11:27:34 from 67.182.145.8

Wow! Its good to hear that you didn't get too cold in the five fingers. But the weather must seem quite warm to you at 39! That's our weather.
