Easy run.

5:11 am, 6°F, 59% humidity, wind 8 ESE.

I had clear places to run most of the time by staying on the north side of the road, but I did run into some stretches of ice covered with a thin layer of crusty snow (which helped it not be slippery) in some areas, particularly on roads that ran north/south. I did a couple of loops close to home rather than going on my normal 6 mile route so that I could cut it short if need be. I wore two pairs of pants, two shirts, and a light jacket, with the bottom layer both bottom and top being SmartWool. That kept me plenty warm, maybe even a little too warm when the wind was behind me. I also wore two pairs of gloves, a neck gaitor thing to cover my face, a fleece ear cover thing, and my usual cap. I started out feeling really sluggish but then got feeling better as the run progressed.

AP: 9:36. Splits: 10:13, 9:59, 9:27, 9:30, 9:23, 9:15, with 0.24 at 9:00 pace.

In other news, my oven stopped working last night. It just doesn't warm up. That's a problem I didn't want to deal with right now. I'll just add it to the list. At least the stove is still working.

I'm looking forward to going up to Boulder for the race tomorrow with my fabulous friend Michelle, though I'm not so sure I'm looking forward to actually running the race. I need to get myself psyched up to run fast for 3.1 miles. The faster I run, the sooner it's over. Right?

Wow 5 degrees..And I was all excited that it was 12 here with the windchill. I thought I dress appropriately until the wind started smacking in my face on the way back! It just started to snow here!

I wonder if they are doing the cash for clunkers for appliances yet. The SO and I were holding out on buying a new washer and dryer set until we knew for sure...maybe you could look into that?

From The Quiet Pirate on Fri, Dec 04, 2009 at 12:01:07 from 24.199.205.252

Tax rebates on new energy star appliances, right? What a hassle!

It is so cold there. My hat is off to you for going out there. It must have taken you 10 minutes to just get dressed and put all of those clothes on.

It's great that you were able to run off the sluggishness. Those runs are the great ones, when you feel better after running.

Have fun with Michelle tomorrow, and enjoy the journey....just bundle up!

From Nevels on Fri, Dec 04, 2009 at 12:38:33 from 131.204.15.93

Solid commitment. With those temps, I'd be inside with my footie pajamas, curled up in my blanky.

I'm a wuss. I know.

Get psyched for the race. It will be fun. You should try doing something different for it. Maybe try running it backwards (although you might lose a little on your PR), or with a santa hat on. Or you should run barefoot. Hahahaha.

From Nan Kennard on Fri, Dec 04, 2009 at 13:31:51 from 174.51.250.151

What time is your race tomorrow? Maybe I could stop by and cheer you in. My workout is usually over by 9:45 and I'll just be coming from 28th and Palo Parkway.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Fri, Dec 04, 2009 at 13:59:36 from 198.241.217.15

Nan, the start time for my wave is 8:50. My friend's start time is 9:30. If I can make it back to the start after I finish, I might try to bandit run her wave with her.

From Tracy on Fri, Dec 04, 2009 at 14:54:13 from 209.175.177.37

Get psyched knowing that I am going to be running a 5K on Sunday and I will have the added benefit of knowing how fast you ran so I can try to beat you!

Set the bar high!

You'll have a great race--the wave start will definitely get you moving faster a the start.

From JD on Fri, Dec 04, 2009 at 14:57:36 from 70.96.78.157

Have a fun race Carolyn. A word of advice: run really fast.

From Nan Kennard on Fri, Dec 04, 2009 at 16:12:27 from 174.51.250.151

Oh, you're in a fast wave! You should have no problem getting back to run with your friend. Looks like the start is close to the finish. And what pace is Michelle shooting for? If I am able to stop by in time I'd love to come join you in the final mile or so. That is if I have an estimate of when you'll be coming by mile 2 and a description of what you are wearing so I be sure not to miss you.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Fri, Dec 04, 2009 at 16:23:53 from 198.241.217.15

April, it sounds like you got the snow you've been waiting for.

QP, I'm hoping I can get the oven fixed and don't have to get a new one. A guy should be here to fix it any minute now.

Nevels, you are anything but a wuss.

Jun, is running it twice enough craziness?

Tracy, I expect that you'll beat me again.

JD, thanks for the advice. Should I keep my legs moving too?

Nan, I think I'll wear a light blue long sleeved shirt with some logos on it as my outer-most shirt. And I'll wear a white baseball-type cap with a runner girl emblem on the front of it. Gray long pants. Or maybe I'll wear a Santa hat like jun suggested. If I have a change in wardrobe plans, I'll PM you early tomorrow morning before I leave for Boulder.

I think Michelle will run between 8:30 and 9:00 pace, so she should hit the beginning of the second mile at 9:38 or so, and the beginning of the third mile at 9:47 or so.

It would be really cool to see you, Nan!

Good luck Carolyn. Go for the penguin!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Fri, Dec 04, 2009 at 17:25:17 from 24.8.167.243

Bonnie, based on last year's results, I'd have to run it in 19 minutes to get a penguin, and I don't think that's going to happen. I'll be happy if I can beat the 23:14 that I got on Thanksgiving.

From jun on Fri, Dec 04, 2009 at 17:37:06 from 66.239.250.209

Yes, running it twice is awesome.

From Kelli on Fri, Dec 04, 2009 at 17:49:59 from 71.219.71.229

5 degrees? MAMMA MIA!!!!

Best of luck on your race, bust it out and finish it!!
