Easy run + 4 x 100 meter strides.

6:04 am, 52° F, 34% humidity, wind 5 SSE.

I did my old 4 mile route in reverse and with a little variation so that I would end up at the track, which also added some extra distance. I ran the strides on the track, but not being terrifically familiar with tracks and all the markings on them, I wasn't sure exactly which markings indicated 100 meters, so I actually just did the strides for 30 seconds each instead of by distance and now looking at the stats, I realize they were all about 135 meters.

There was a woman with a dog on the track, possibly the same woman and dog I've seen on the track before, but I'm not sure. It's always been dark when I've been on the track before, but it was light this morning. She was kind of wandering around and picking up trash and letting the dog run free. The dog did not bother me at all. She was friendly and we spoke briefly.

I have not been taking sufficient advantage of the opportunity I have to sleep in a little bit this week. That is, I've been offsetting it by staying up too late. Last night it was my own darn fault. I stayed up reading a book. But I finished the book, so now that monkey is off my back. But I may or may not be going up to Commerce City tonight to see a play at the high school where my husband teaches. If I do, then tonight will probably be another late night.

After so many nights of going to bed early and getting up early, it is nice to stay up late once in a while. It may not be good for your body but it's probably good for your sanity.

A good book is better than sleep! But I know you're needing extra sleep this week for your race on Saturday.

I'm glad your weather wasn't too cold. If you do go to see the play, I hope it's a good one!

Nice work on the miles and sprints. Good luck with the sleep...I know how it feels to be deprived!! :)

Nice run... Hope you will get to catch up on some sleep soon, I know how you are feeling. I will be having another late night myself.

This is probably a silly questions... but what are strides? Are they different from sprints? If so how.

Lori, I don't really know what the difference is. This is the first time I've had strides on my workout schedule and they're not explained well in the book that I got the workout schedule from. However, I do have this lovely link that (if I remember correctly) was sent to me by the ever-helpful Bonnie:

I like your workout today. Did you run your strides at the end of your running, or did you then run a bit more easy?

Get some sleep!

The idea was for the stides to be at the end of my run. I had run the specified easy distance before I started the strides. However, I did the strides on the track (perhaps I should have done them on the grass inside the track) and the track is about a quarter mile from my house, so I ran home at an easy pace after I finished the strides.

That article you posted says to run on "soft, yet smooth" ground. Anyone have any idea why a football field would be more beneficial than a track?

You know I used to think that running was just that... one foot infront of the other... there is so much more to it, when you start thinking about proformance instead of just running.
