Easy run + 10 x 10 sec. hill sprints. Average pace: 10:04.

5:00 am, 39° F, 55% humidity, winds calm.

I got some trail shoes because I have a challenging trail race coming up and I'm hoping that they help me stay on my feet during the race. But they have a big clunky heel and I'm blaming them for my running slowly today. But maybe I should blame all the junk I ate over the weekend. In any case, maybe I'll just use these shoes on days that I'm supposed to do an easy run to help me keep it easy.

My splits this morning for the 6 miles before the hill sprints were 10:05, 9:51, 9:52, 9:56, 9:52, 9:37. It occurred to me this morning that one thing the Monday-morning hill sprints do for me is wake up my legs after the Sunday off and the slow Monday morning run. My paces on the hill sprints were 7:10, 6:37, 6:33, 6:47, 6:29, 6:16, 6:22, 6:40, 6:41, and 6:28. It was nice that it was starting to get light by the time I was doing the hill sprints. I should enjoy it while I can because before long it will be dark at that time again.

The best thing about Daylight Savings Time (who came up with that name anyway?) is going off of it. Although I have to admit that if we didn't have DST, here in Denver we'd have full sun at 4 am in the Summer.

You ran the hill sprints in big heeled trail shoes and still made great times. It's Monday morning madness :-)

It was nice to have the sun up earlier today. It was still dark here at 6 am, but by 6:23, the sky was lightening up. Only 1 month and 20 days until we get to have longer days again.

We get the sunrise relatively early, that is to say, earlier than they do in Utah, because we're on the eastern edge of the time zone. It was just after 6:00 when I was doing the hill sprints and I would say the sun was really up, but there was enough glow over the eastern plains to provide some light. My son was surprised that it was light when I was driving him to seminary, but then I reminded him about the time change. I wonder how long it will be until it's dark during the drive to seminary again.

Nice work this morning Carolyn. The shoes didn't stop you on those hill sprints at all!! Keep up the good work and enjoy the sunshine, like you said it will be gone again before we know it :(

Those hill sprints are getting faster? Nice! Looks like pretty decent weather for 5:00 AM.

Hahahaha! I'd LOVE full sun at 4 AM! :D

Are the trail shoes flexible?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Nov 02, 2009 at 18:45:57 from 24.8.167.243

They're slightly stiffer than the regular Brooks Adrenalines, but not nearly as flexible as the ST3s.
