Easy Run + 10 x 8 sec. hill sprints. Average pace: 9:47.

30-day Shred Level 2

48°F, 52% humidity, winds calm.

The new shirt I wore this morning did a good job of keeping me cool, which is not what I wanted. I was chilly on top throughout the run. Maybe it will be a good as a layer when it gets colder and I start wearing multiple layers.

It's been quite a while since I've done level 2 of the Shred, and I have to say, it kicked my butt this morning. I did level 1 for about the last month. My plan is to do level 2 for about a month, and then do level 3 for about a month. Then I'll have to either find some other strength routine to do, or take a break and lose my fitness so that the Shred becomes hard again, like I've done in the past.

Nice work - LOVE those hills sprints (said with all the sarcasm I can muster!). I'll have to look into this 'shred' of yours. Sounds intriguing!! Did the recruit leave for good?

From Tracy on Mon, Sep 28, 2009 at 10:18:33 from 209.175.177.37

Good run! I hate wardrobe issues--good luck in finding the perfect outfit for this weather. Probably as soon as you do it'll start getting colder!

I'm the same when it comes to cycles in strength training--just keep doing what you're doing and it'll get easier. Is there a level 4?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Sep 28, 2009 at 10:23:23 from 24.8.167.243

RAD, the recruit has been out with the flu. She wasn't at church yesterday. I'll have to talk to her when she gets feeling better and see if she wants to pick it back up.

Tracy, there is not a level 4. The Shred just has 3 different 20-minute workouts. I have some other workout videos, but they take an hour and I don't have that much time in the morning (or really anywhere in the day).

It was chilly here this morning too. I'm still having a hard time typing because my fingers are stiff.

47 degrees here this morning! BRRR. Its a tough time of year for wardrobe. Adjustments must be made. I'm hoping to look for some new tops at the Expo in Portland.

54 degrees this morning. Supposed to hit 90 degrees today. By Wednesday, the high will only be 55 degrees!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Sep 28, 2009 at 12:28:25 from 198.241.159.80

We're supposed to be in the 70s today, and in the 80s tomorrow and Wednesday (but it's still cold in the mornings), and then in the 50s on Thursday. It must be the same cold front you're getting on Wednesday.

From The Quiet Pirate on Mon, Sep 28, 2009 at 13:11:13 from 24.199.205.252

I'm obviously the slow one here...

So the Shred thing you're doing is a video workout? Is it like strength training that I could do instead of physical therapy every day?

The weather here is cooling off too in the mornings/nights. I could see the steam coming off of my body this morning in my headlamp as I was stretching after the run. It was around 60 degrees, so it wasn't cold, it just felt nice to run in.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Sep 28, 2009 at 14:58:03 from 198.241.174.15

Yes, the Shred is a video workout. It's Jillian Michael's 30-Day Shred. (http://www.amazon.com/Jillian-Michaels-30-Day-Shred/dp/B00127RAJY/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1254163791&sr=8-1)

I don't know if you could do it instead of your physical therapy because I don't know what your physical therapy is targeted for, but if you feel like you don't need the physical therapy anymore for whatever problem it was originally designed to treat, and you're just looking for a strengthening workout, you could certainly use the Shred. The video has been out for a while, so you can get it pretty cheaply now.

What a BEAUTIFUL run :) Hills sound SO heavenly :) Shred sounds fun too :) When is your next race??? Are you going to run Boston?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Sep 28, 2009 at 17:41:32 from 198.241.174.15

Marion, my next race will be a 10-mile trail run on October 10, but I'm really training for a half-marathon trail race on November 14. I may or may not run Boston, depending on whether I have some to run it with. I don't want to go there by myself.

From Kelli on Mon, Sep 28, 2009 at 18:15:01 from 71.219.96.151

You can do p90x!!!!

Great run this morning, sorry the shirt was too cool, but that may come in handy in about 9 months!!!

From marion on Mon, Sep 28, 2009 at 18:54:18 from 71.213.105.213

Smooth runs it every year and I think that Kelli & Teena may be going too. some day I will go, if for nothing else but to carbo load with y'all ;)

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Sep 28, 2009 at 19:29:15 from 198.241.217.15

Kelli, how long are the P90X workouts? I don't have a lot of time.

From april27 on Mon, Sep 28, 2009 at 22:24:36 from 99.188.251.180

Sorry if I"m repeating someone else but maybe instead of switching months for two months you could do shred 1 and then the next shred 2.etc..and in two months you woul rotate 3 and 2...and then maybe 1 and 3...just a thought

From Kelli on Mon, Sep 28, 2009 at 22:43:04 from 71.219.96.151

I WILL BE THERE!!!! I have booked my hotel.

From Kelli on Mon, Sep 28, 2009 at 22:44:09 from 71.219.96.151

Oh, and the p9ox videos vary in length, just depends on what you want to work on for the day. I know the ab one is 20 minutes, but I have yet to try any of the others. I will ask my sister and let you know. they are super hard!!!
