Progression Run. 12 miles w/ last 20 min. hard. Average pace: 8:53.

51°F, 51% humidity, wind 3 N, very cloudy and overcast.

Shred level 1.

We had a small group today. It was just me, Michelle, and Carly. We ran 5 miles with splits of 9:09, 9:12, 9:14, 9:16, and 9:21. Then Carly stopped and Michelle and I continued on for 4 more miles with splits of 9:23, 9:18, 9:26, 9:14. Then Michelle stopped and I continued on by myself for .44 miles at 8:55 pace, then I picked up the pace for 20 minutes. Up till now my progression runs have always specified a moderate effort for the finish, but today's workout called for a hard effort. My moderate effort for the last two Saturdays produced 7:54 and 7:53 pace, so my goal today was just to run hard and be faster than 7:53. I didn't have a more specific pace target than that. I ran the last 20 minutes at 7:29 pace.

We encountered a really big group of men and little kids on bicycles at one point. There were probably 30 or 40 people in the group. The strange thing about it was that there were no women. There was a lone man on a bicycle right behind Michelle and me and even though we moved over to give him room, he waited until we were past this big group of bicyclists before he passed us. As he passed us he commented that he was wondering where the mama ducks were, or something like that.

**Update**

I did Marion's yoga. Man, am I tight! Also, my kids kept coming in and interrupting me. I finally locked the door. I think I can maybe fit in yoga once/week, but I should probably do it more than that if I want to get rid of some of this tightness.

That's a pretty fast finish for a twelve mile run!

The group maybe was a scout troop or something. The guy on the bike behind you maybe a weirdo or something.

Nice run! You are SO fast! Have I told you lately that I want to be you?? :D

Thanks, JD, Marion, Lori, and Auntieem.

Marion and Lori, I love you both just the way you are.

that's because we are SO cute.... and you can beat our pants off ;)

From Carolyn in Colorado on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 17:04:02 from 24.8.167.243

Marion, you and I are twins, except you're the good twin and I'm the evil twin.

From marion on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 17:07:34 from 71.213.124.121

Evil, eh??? You must be REALLY evil, cause I am the MOST evil person I know. Just ask my family ;) I did just make homemade suckers for my kids. They will like me for a while...until the suckers are gone ;)

From RAD on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 18:29:50 from 76.27.12.70

NICE run Carolyn! You are gaining some GREAT speed, and those workouts don't sound very fun to me - like a BBK workout :) Maybe it was a scout group? No mama ducks there :)

From Carolyn in Colorado on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 19:11:58 from 24.8.167.243

The kids looked Cub Scout age maybe and I really don't remember whether they were just boys or if there were also girls.

Marion, sometime I'll enlightening you on the extent of my evilness.

From The Quiet Pirate on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 19:53:49 from 65.191.134.20

I'm thinking you are my idol with those great times. And what an awesome pick up at the end!

When I was reading your blog, I thought....oh, a big polygamist family outing with Dads and the kids! But cub scouts sounds like a better bet since you're Carolyn in Colorado and not Carolyn in Utah.

Great job on your run.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 21:00:55 from 24.8.167.243

I'm sure they weren't polygamists. Maybe if I was in southwestern Colorado, but not here. And there were way too many dads. Polygamists would have just a few dads and tons of moms.

From marion on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 22:27:47 from 71.213.124.121

CArolyn- run away from your family and we can have an evil weekend running and eating hashbrowns and eggs at the Metcalf Hotel.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 22:40:47 from 24.8.167.243

That is an awesome idea Marion! We've got to find a way to do that.

From marion on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 22:47:46 from 71.213.124.121

Hopefully Lori is paying attention to us talking about her and planning vacations with her :) .. oh yeah, vacations at her house :)

From Kelli on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 22:59:55 from 71.219.97.42

Strange about the no mamams?!? Very nice run!!!

Yoga is GREAT! I just pick a few of the hip openers and do them at night while I watch TV or read a book. I have been known to do Yoga at the pool and the park!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 23:06:07 from 24.8.167.243

Marion, Lori did comment on this post, so if she gets email notifications, she should be getting emails of our nefarious plans.

From marion on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 23:16:48 from 71.213.124.121

She is probably trying to ignore our blatant attempts at an invite ;) Kelli will let us come over :D Right Kelli!

From Kelli on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 23:20:45 from 71.219.97.42

Not very exciting here at all, but, sure----come on over.

My son just asked me if I was pregnant? He said I looked pregnant. Anyone want a 10 year old?

From marion on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 23:31:22 from 71.213.124.121

Kelli- i guess he does not know that is punishable by death? I made homemade suckers and he will get NONE!!!

From Kelli on Sat, Sep 12, 2009 at 23:39:22 from 71.219.97.42

His dad chewed him out royally! I thought I was looking OKAY today, too.

From marion on Sun, Sep 13, 2009 at 11:09:38 from 71.213.124.121

KElli- I am glad he was let off with a stern warning. :) the poor little fellow, just his first in a line of many things he will say that will get him beaten ;)

Carolyn- I am glad you tried it :) Did you do the hip openers or the sciatica one? My hams are still sore from all of the stretching ;) I can't wait to see what the free classes are this week. I may have to break down and buy the monthly subscription.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Sun, Sep 13, 2009 at 11:13:51 from 24.8.167.243

I did the sciatica one. I'm so bad at it, I could do the same free class every day of the week in order to improve at it a little.

From marion on Sun, Sep 13, 2009 at 11:38:24 from 71.213.124.121

Yes, that is true :) Enjoy the soreness in your hams tonight.

From april27 on Sun, Sep 13, 2009 at 19:52:17 from 99.188.251.180

Great job! I love yoga. I wish I could fit it in more!

From The Quiet Pirate on Sun, Sep 13, 2009 at 20:18:44 from 65.191.134.20

Free yoga? Where do I sign up???

I had to laugh about the 10 year old's comment... It made me remember a time when my daughter was maybe 8 years old. She's watched ONE episode of a makeover show on tv and had become familliar with the phrase "tummy tuck." We were at the local pool, and she walks up and smacks the back of my thighs and said, "Mom, you need a leg tuck."

She's 13 now, and so self conscious. But she'll have her own kids one day and that will be the best revenge.
