One hour on the treadmill. It was too icy to run outside. I hope the snow and ice melt enough today for me to run outside tomorrow.

I set the treadmill at 1% grade. I measured my heart beat using the sensors on the treadmill right before the end of each mile. I'm listing heart rates in parantheses following the paces here. I started slowly and ran a mile at 10:55 pace (132), then another mile at 10:00 pace (144). Then I went up to 9:31 pace (145) for a mile and increased the pace by .1 mph for each mile thereafter, creating subsequent splits of 9:23 (148), 9:14 (148), and 9:05 (153). I still had a couple of minutes left in my hour after those 6 miles, so I upped the pace to 8:34 (154) for the remaining .22 miles. Average pace was 9:39.

It would take too long for me to drive to work (where the treadmill is) and back early in the morning, especially since I had to drive to seminary today. So in order to eliminate an extra round trip to the office, I got up early (but not as early as I should have - see below) and worked for a while in the morning and then came in to work after all the kids had gone to school and ran on the treadmill then.

As I drove up to my office this morning, I realized that I had neglected to bring a towel. I could have driven back home to get one, but it would have taken me about a half an hour to get there and back. There's a new Target close to my office and I figured we could use some new towels anyway, so I went to Target and bought a towel. That little detour probably took me about 15 minutes.

Now for an explanation of why I did not get up as early as I should have. 1) I was up until midnight reading a book. I'm often like this when I read a book. I do nothing but read until I finish the book. The book was Catching Fire, the second book in the The Hunger Games series. 2) My daughter came and climbed into bed with me around 4 am because she had had a bad dream. I finally sent her back to her own room at about 5 am. The good news is that the third book in the The Hunger Games series hasn't been published yet, so I can maybe go to bed on time tonight instead of staying up to read.

The Hunger Games is apparently the next big thing since Twilight. I was #140 on the wait list at the library for the first book in the series, but then got lucky and found a copy on the shelf one day. Then I was #110 on the wait list for the 2nd book, but then someone from church lent it to me.

They're technically young adult novels, but they're pretty gruesome. The premise is that it's far in the future in what used to the United States. The country is called Panem and it's divided into 12 districts plus a capitol. At some point in the past the districts rebelled against the capitol and were defeated and now the capitol keeps the districts in poverty and each year they hold The Hunger Games. A boy and girl between the ages of 12 and 18 are randomly chosen from each district to participate in The Hunger Games. It's like Survivor taken to the extreme. They're put in some kind of big enclosed area with cameras all over and the whole thing is televised. They have to kill each other and the last person living is the winner. Like I aid, it's pretty gruesome.

wow...nice work on the TM miles and wow on that book! I totally thought it was a 'diet' book when I first heard about it :) It does sound interesting though.

Nice work on the time management and getting it all in plus a little rest!! Nice work on the TM...I really don't think I could run a 6 mm on the road let alone on a TM!!!!

Hahahaha. Readers, we are as silly as runners. The combo just makes us dumb. I can't tell you how many nights I've stayed up till 3am reading (every Harry Potter book pretty much). I love the sacrifices for both though.

Actually, that sounds very interesting! Who is the author? I will add it to my wait list at the library!

The kids at our school love those books. They have an option to read it sophomore year and a lot of them do. I haven't read it yet, but it's on my list.

And I am the exact same way with books. I just can't put them down.

Last week I read two books from a great series (The Wheel of Time--it's a fantasy series). The books are around 800 pages and I read them both in about 3 days apiece. I love reading.

Oh yeah. Good running :)

Hopefully the ice clears up!

Oops. I didn't run that mile at 6mm pace, RAD. I ran it at 6 mph (the treadmill shows mph and I had to convert it to mm), which is 10mm. My bad.

The author of The Hunger Games is Suzanne Collins.

I am going to look for those books on audio. My daughter will probably like them too. Good job getting through the dreadmill run.
