Mechanically-enforced progression run.

Welcome to the frozen wasteland, where right now, at 11:37 am, it is 4 degrees outside. We didn't get the snow that they forecast for today, but we did get the cold. So I wimped out and stayed inside today. I got up at 4:30 like usual, but then I worked during the time I would normally run and shower. After all my kids were off to school, I came to work, and during the time that I would normally work, I ran and showered.

I set the treadmill at a 1% incline and started out at 6 mph (10:00 pace) and ran a mile at that pace. At the end of that mile and each mile thereafter, I hit the speed increase button once. So my splits were 10:00, 9:50, 9:41, 9:31, 9:23, 9:14, 9:05, 8:57, 8:49, 8:42. The treadmill won't let you go for more than 60 minutes, so I did six miles, then stopped the treadmill and restarted it and then did the rest.

It was very boring. The blinds were closed and I was too lazy to go over there and open them, so I couldn't even watch the traffic out the window. There were a couple of other people in the gym, but because of where the treadmills are positioned, they were all behind me and so I couldn't see them. I could see a little sliver of tree branches in the gap between the blinds and the window frame, and it looked like the branches were bouncing up and down as I ran. That was my visual entertainment for an hour and a half or so. I did have music for audio entertainment.

In other news, after a great big hit to my bank account, my refrigerator is working now.

Wow you gys are really getting the cold! What's up with this weather. It usually warms up a bit when it snows, but today we got snow and it's still very cold. Way to stick it out on the treadmill. We may all hate them but it's sure nice to be able to still get a run in when the weather is so crappy. I'm glad your fridge is working... but sorry for the hit to the bank account. I think mine is going to get a hit real soon. My car is not acting good. :(

I like the sound of that: "mechanically reinforced running." Sounds much cooler than my "I'm too scared of the 45 degree rain to run; I guess I'll take a nap."

Nice negative splits (I ran one of those once)

4 degrees. Words cannot express my shear and unabashed horror at the sound of that.

I'm pretty horrified myself, Nevels.

A sliver of a tree branch? See? A glimmer of hope!

wow...that is some good mental toughness you've got girl! I'd have been done by mile 3!!! 10 on a TM is amazing to me, no matter how fast or slow, but especially with nothing to look at!! Oh, and don't freeze on the way home!!

that cold at 11am...that is crazy. That may of kept me inside. It is one thing if it is dark and 4:30am...

Great job rocking out 10 miles on the treadmill!

I'm trying to picture what it would be like running 10 miles on a tm with nothing to look at but a twig bouncing in the wind.

It's not a pretty picture.

You're dedicated for sticking it out. I like how you increased your speed with each mile. tm's are great for keeping you at a constant speed!

Happey to hear your fridge is fixed, sorry it was a money sponge. Bad time of year for stuff like that.

Way to get some good miles in on the TM. I have not been able to run that far on a machine yet. I want to kill myself around mile 4.
