Easy run + level 2 shred.

5:06 am, 7°F, 75% humidity, winds calm, a couple inches of powdery snow on the ground.

I debated whether to run outside this morning or run on the treadmill. I decided to be hard core and run outside. I kind of like to be outside in the early morning when there's snow on the ground. It's very peaceful.

I ran my 4 mile neighborhood loop twice instead of a bigger 8 mile loop because I didn't want to venture too far from home. Most of the snow fell yesterday, not overnight, and so some places were plowed with varying levels of success. About a little more than half of my run was through neighborhoods while the rest was on main roads. In the neighborhoods, I ran in the road where the cars had smashed the snow down. I think there had also been a plow through at some point yesterday, but the neighborhood roads were still snow-packed. On the main roads, the sidewalks had been plowed for the most part and so they were either relatively clear or had a thin layer of snow, depending how recently they were plowed. I wore my YakTrax and that helped.

I managed to get my oven fixed on Friday, but now my refrigerator stopped working last night. Why are all of these things happening right now? Fortunately, it's wicked cold outside, so I put the food from the refrigerator in boxes and put the boxes in my garage, which is plenty cold.

I don't think anyone would question whether you are hard core or not. You might be the most dedicated outdoor runner on this site. Great miles this morning. That is amazing considering how cold it is outside right now.

Sorry about your fridge. Don't they say these things come in threes? What's next? Hopefully not the furnace.

Maybe I've already got my three. The handle broke off the microwave a while ago, but we can pry it open with the handle of a spoon. I sincerely hope the furnace doesn't go.

Holy cow! What terrible luck! Hopefully you can get the fridge fixed too!

You are totally hardcore. I love it. You're so inspiring!

JD why do you keep calling runners insane? takes one to know one!!

Carolyn--will you call me in the morning to wake me up?? LOL..and sorry about your appliance! My fridge wasn't broken but I finally found the horrible smell of which I originally thought was coming from the trash can...yes that bad...

From JD on Mon, Dec 07, 2009 at 22:14:55 from 166.216.128.77

A person who has never tried running must think we're completely bonkers. It's one thing to get up at 4:30 AM, and another to go run that early, and yet another to go run that early when it's 7 degrees and icy outside.

It does take one to know one...

From Kelli on Mon, Dec 07, 2009 at 22:19:58 from 71.219.71.229

When it rains it purs, that is for sure! but to pour right before Christmas is just not nice!!! I am glad you are not going to lose all of your food, though!

Nice HARD CORE workout, that is so cold! I would have been on the treadmill. In fact, I already know I will be there tomorrow and it is not even going to be 7 degrees, but it will be fresh snow and people drive crazy then so I want to be far away from it!!!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Dec 07, 2009 at 23:04:40 from 24.8.167.243

I'm worried about tomorrow myself, Kelli. We're supposed to get more snow and it's supposed to be colder than it was today. Our high temperature today was 9 degrees, or something like that.

From Kelli on Mon, Dec 07, 2009 at 23:16:02 from 71.219.71.229

YIKES!!! We hit 28 at least. Brr...that is a treadmill day, I think!

From The Quiet Pirate on Tue, Dec 08, 2009 at 09:46:44 from 24.199.205.252

I'm so impressed with your hard core dedication. It is beautiful out in the early morning, but 7* isn't very pretty to me.

I guess it's good that it's so cold, giving you an extra big refrigerator to use.

My mom used to always store stuff inside the bbq during the cold winter months (we didn't have a garage).

Necessity is the mother of all invention.

Stay safe in the snow and ice!

From Mark on Tue, Dec 08, 2009 at 10:21:40 from 24.129.132.74

You ARE hardcore, no doubt about it. I think there is a marathon in Greenland that might be good for you :) Maybe the fridge had been hanging on as long as it could, just waiting until the cold weather came.
