Easy run. Average pace: 9:54.

52°F, 58% humidity, winds calm.

I was really slow this morning. I guess I'm keeping my easy day easy. And I am a little under the weather.

I put new batteries in my headlamp yesterday. It dims gradually and so I hadn't realized how dim it was until I put the new batteries in. I was a veritable beacon this morning.

I really shouldn't stay up past 9 pm. I turn into a witch at 9 pm. I was pretty bad last night. My poor family. They only partly deserved the venom that I spewed at them.

Shortly after my run this morning, when I was driving to seminary, I saw a woman running with a dog and she really looked like the dog was pulling her faster than she wanted to go. After I did the seminary drop off and was heading back home, I saw her again and she looked just the same. I wonder how long she can keep that up.

I'm really looking forward to a 3-day weekend. I'm really glad I didn't sign up for the 10 mile race I was thinking about running on Monday.

Hi Carolyn..I'm RAD's sister. I am curious about your running lamp. I'm running before seminary drop off in the morning too, and I hate the dark spots in between street lights. What kind of lamp are you using? What are the +/- of using it?

I hear you about the 3 day week end!!

Hi Quiet Pirate. It's nice to meet you. The brand of the headlamp I use is Petzl and it says Tikka Plus on it. I always wear a hat when I run and I rest the headlamp on top of the brim of the hat. The hat brim gives me a little shadow where the light from the lamp doesn't hit in front of me, but the hat also makes it so that I really don't feel the lamp on my head at all. I really like it and feel like it helps me see and be seen.

I looked for it on amazon.com and I think that this is it:

I bought it at REI about a year ago and it's still working great.

What time do you have to do your seminary drop off?

From The Quiet Pirate on Fri, Sep 04, 2009 at 11:37:51 from 24.199.205.252

Carolyn,

Thanks for the info on the headlamp. I think I'll try and get one since it's just going to get darker outside. I think wearing the hat to support the lamp sounds like a great idea. I was concerned that wearing one would be irritating on my head...but with a hat, it probably won't be so bad.

We leave for seminary at 5:30. I'm grateful that I had seminary as a class in high school. My hat goes off to all the kids that get up so early and go every day.

I second the Petzl headlamp. And I always have that surprise of seeing just how bad the battery was when I finally go to change it. Might be time about now actually.

Stay well, Carolyn!

Quiet Pirate,

You leave for seminary at 5:30 and you are finished running before that? Wow. And I thought I had it bad. I leave for seminary at 6:15 or 6:20, so I just have to be finished with my run by then.

What time do you start your run?

To give credit where credit is due, I got the headlamp recommendation last year from Snoqualmie.

I think that's the same headlamp I've got. I've had it for four years and have only used it maybe a dozen times to read while camping. I turned it on this morning and it still burns bright. Same batteries. Is yours the one with three little lights, and four different brightness settings including the one that flashes? Gosh, now I'm all excited about headlamps!

Get well soon and go easy on the Fam.

too much talk about headlamps...reminds me it's getting darker, colder and closer to the holidays and snow - YUCK!!!

Nice work Carolyn, easy days NEED to be easy. Good luck with the weekend - I know I'll need it! :)

From The Quiet Pirate on Fri, Sep 04, 2009 at 13:44:15 from 24.199.205.252

Carolyn,

I get up at 4:30. On mornings when Dad drives to seminary, I'll get to run and get my PT in by 6. My middle-schooler has to catch the bus at 6:25, so I like to spend the morning with her before she's off for her day at school.

I don't enjoy the early morning, but I like how I feel after I exercise in the morning, so I get up and "get 'er done."

Do you have any upcoming races in Colorado?

I met a lady at the Myrle Beach marathon in February who is in the 50 states club. She was from Colorado, and her name was Carolyn too. She was older though. Just thought it was interesting...

From Carolyn in Colorado on Fri, Sep 04, 2009 at 13:49:54 from 198.241.217.15

Yes, JD. I think that is the same headlamp that I have.

RAD, sorry to remind you of the change of seasons. Fall isn't so bad, the problem is that Winter comes after that.

QP, I also get up at 4:30 and I'm done with my run by about 6:00 or shortly thereafter. Then I drive to seminary and back (it's only about 15 minutes round trip) and then I'm home with my middle schooler until he lives at 7:10, my other high schooler (who doesn't go to seminary) until he leaves at 7:15, and my 7-year-old daughter until she gets the school bus at 8:25. Then I go to work.

Wow Carolyn. You've got a morning schedule that makes a marathon look easy.
