Easy run. Average pace 9:08.

Weather: 62°F, 42% humidity, wind 5 WNW.

I slept in a little bit this morning and so I didn't have time for my run before it was going to be time to take my son to work. So I did the No More Trouble Zones video and then took him to work and ran after that. The result was that it was a little warmer when I ran than it would have been if I had run first thing. I'm going to have to make sure I get up early on Saturdays as well as on other days to run when it's cooler. I suppose 62° today wasn't too bad, but it will get worse and would have been worse if I had had a longer run. I should probably also start wearing my fuel belt. I haven't done that for quite a while. I didn't take it today, but I make a little detour and ran through some sprinklers just before the end of the 4th mile, and then stopped at a Walgreen's and got a drink from their drinking fountain just before the end of the 6th mile. I actually passed 3 Walgreen's during my run today. I can stop at any of them for a bathroom or water, but only if I run late enough. They don't open until 8:00 am. There is one that is open 24 hours, but it is down by my office and I go by there only if I do my office loop.

I felt sluggish at the beginning of this run, but got feeling better. There's a fairly big hill in the 2nd mile that I always struggle with and today the song Allergies, by the Barenaked Ladies came on when I started the hill. It's not one of my more favorite songs, but it's got a good tempo and I matched my cadence to the song going up the hill and got up the hill a little faster than usual. But it's a short song and so it didn't last the whole hill. I like running fast up a hill because I can usually keep the faster pace with less effort once I crest the hill and am either on flat or downhill. Splits were 9:52, 9:24, 8:54, 9:06, 9:09, 9:08, 9:00, 8:41.

I had my mp3 player on all songs shuffle and a while later it played Be Still, My Soul by the Mormon Tabernacle Choir. This is actually the song and arrangement that my ward choir is working on. So even though it's not exactly a peppy running song, I listened to it twice and figured I was doing some preparation for tomorrow's choir practice during my run.

Nice outing today. Sounds like you have a lot going on.

Great run, Carolyn. It's funny how the 60sF feels warm to us now. We'll be begging for 60s in August. I have a terrible time acclimatizing because all week I run in the cool wee hours and then on the weekend I get blasted. I did ok today though, and it looks like you did too.

Great job, it will only take a couple of weeks and you will be used to the heat again!

Our lows are in the high 60's these days, so I know of what I speak about getting used to it ;-).

Nice run... it has been getting warm here also, I need to do morning runs because after work is crazy. Last week it was around 80 when I got done with my run.

I am chuckling that you ran to the Tabernacle Choir! I think Marion has done that as well!!! I do love that hymn, though.

So, how did you like matching your cadence to the beat of the song? Those are my favorite runs when I do that! You never know what is coming next>

Have a great weekend.

Kelli, I really like it when a song comes on that I can match my cadence to. It gives me a little lift. But I'm also fun running to things like the MoTabs.

I wore my fuel belt for the first time in a long time the other day. I decided I feel like a dork with it on...but now I hate carrying a bottle. I ran in the 70's the other day and thought I would die from the heat. I also vowed to wake up earlier next time! LOL

YOu like Jillian Videos too??? I love her kickboxing--what is the no more trouble zones one like?

From Carolyn in Colorado on Sun, May 31, 2009 at 09:27:03 from 71.229.164.25

April, No More Trouble Zones is about 50 minutes long and goes through 7 circuits, all of which you do twice except for the last one. Each circuit targets different muscles. For example, the first one is shoulders and some lower body thing, I can't remember what right now. She always combines different exercises, like a squat with a shoulder press.

hmmmm maybe I will have to look into that one...just for days like today--I don't feel like running but I feel like being active...

From Tracy17 on Sun, May 31, 2009 at 19:50:44 from 173.24.32.153

I love the album Snacktime. I'm not much of a fan of kids' music (I HATE McDonald's for what they did to me with those Kidz Bop cds) but I can get behind that album. My oldest is at the age where he requests music and my mom just lent him some annoying kids songs that I refuse to play in the car.

But I'm with you on having an easier run with rhythm that matches my stride. I heart Prince for that very reason.

From Carolyn in Colorado on Sun, May 31, 2009 at 20:35:27 from 71.229.164.25

Tracy, I have to say that my favorite song on Snacktime is The Ninjas. It's good for matching cadence, but is very short. My kids really like Polliwog in a Bog. For some reason, I think My Sister's Coat is really funny.

Nice run Carolyn!! I keep forgetting my MP3 when I run and I usually regret it - especially when I'm alone! That video sounds like a killer! I'd like to try it :)

From Kelli on Mon, Jun 01, 2009 at 13:51:10 from 71.219.98.183

My kids have loved those kids bop cd's, but they drive me nuts!!!!
