Easy run + 7 x 10 sec. hill sprints + level 3 shred.

6:20 am, 39°F, 31% humidity, wind 8 S, gusting to 14.

It turns out that it's easier to get up at 4:30 when I have to get the kids off to school than to get up at 5:30 when I don't have to get the kids off to school. I guess I need some kind of external deadline that is firmer than just needing to get myself to work to get myself out of bed in the morning.

That being said, I enjoyed the warm weather and had a pleasant run today. I ran the County Line/Quebec loop. I was feeling good for most of the run, except for the last bit of the uphill part on Quebec St. going directly into the wind. After some consideration this morning, I've concluded that east on County Line plus south on Quebec is harder than east on Highlands Ranch Parkway.

AP: 9:05. Splits: 9:41, 9:02, 9:06, 8:44, 9:00 (this was the uphill into the wind part), 8:41, 8:40, 8:40. Paces on the hill sprints were: 6:16, 6:09, 6:23, 6:51, 6:25, 7:15, 5:56.

Happy Winter Solstice everyone!

Way to start your holiday week. Great miles. I'm waiting for this storm to hit later today before I run. I'm hoping it will push out all of the pollution. I'd rather run in a snow storm that polluted air. I don't think you guys have that problem, do you?

No, we don't get the inversion like you do. I live quite a ways south of downtown and at a higher elevation. I can sometimes see a brown cloud over downtown, but we're usually pretty clear out where I live.

I think running is the only thing that could ever get me out of bed early if I didn't absolutely have to for some other reason. I am such a zombie when I first get up. Glad you got it together for such a nice run.

Wow - what a great run Carolyn! 7 hills a lot of - Yahoo for you!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Dec 21, 2009 at 11:45:30 from 24.8.167.243

Don't be too impressed, Toby. The 7 hills were only for 10 seconds each, with a walk back down the hill so slowly that it took about 30 seconds in between.

Great run! I need to do that loop again sometime. I woke up at 5:30 today as well, maybe we were running at the same time. I am impressed with an 8 mile run, hill sprints, and the shred. That is a lot in one day. Good job!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Mon, Dec 21, 2009 at 12:38:20 from 198.241.174.15

I wondered if I would see you out there this morning, Michelle, but I didn't know what route you were running and it was a little too late by the time I passed your neighborhood.

What time are you two running tomorrow? Maybe I can join you for part of it.

From JD on Mon, Dec 21, 2009 at 14:55:37 from 70.96.78.157

Nice temperature. It's definitely easier to get up and out the door when there's an external deadline. In my situation. I wake up at 5:00 AM, and know there's a good chance I'll be able to get a run in during the day, or at least a TM run in the evening, and so I sleep for another hour.

From auntieem on Mon, Dec 21, 2009 at 15:18:46 from 67.182.145.8

Great work on the hills, Carolyn! I'm getting rather antsy to start some more track and hill work myself, now that I'm healed.

Great run! Glad it is warmer by you!

From RAD on Mon, Dec 21, 2009 at 19:25:08 from 67.172.229.125

Great run and sprint paces! Getting up w/out a deadline is always hard to do!

LOVE Winter solstice...longest dark day of the year, finally calling back the sun!! I has heard my desperate cold pleas and has decided to finally start it's way back!!

From The Quiet Pirate on Mon, Dec 21, 2009 at 21:00:08 from 65.191.134.20

Carolyn,

Happy Winter Solstice to you too! I'm so glad this day is here so we can bring on the sunshine!!!

I didn't have any reason to hurry out this morning, and I couldn't get up until 9 am. When I did get up, I felt guilty for wasting 1/4 of my waking hours.

Great miles and paces today. And a shred to top it all off. Like a cherry on top of the sundae :-)
