Short-Term Running Goals:

I want to set some new PRs this year.

Personal:

I started running in 2001.  My first 5K was the Salt Lake Classic that year.  I ran it in just under 33 minutes.  I was excited that I could run the whole distance.  My dad and I joked around about doing a marathon, but then we decided, "Why joke about it when we could actually do one?"  We trained for the Top of Utah marathon the next year and ran it in 5:38.  It was such a great feeling of accomplishment!

It's been fun to see how I've improved over the years. It's been such a blessing in my life to have met so many other running friends and to train under such a dedicated and selfless Coach (Bill Schmid).  I hope to keep improving and thriving in the great sport of running!

I met with my runamok friends at 6 a.m.  We did an eight mile warmup up City Creek canyon.  Coach likes us to run a few miles before a 5k.  It helps us to warm-up and to get our nerves under control.  The usual mentality is "If I run all these miles before a race, I won't do a very fast 5k."  So when it comes time to race, mentally you feel like you won't be able to race very fast, so you're more relaxed, and end up doing really well.

This is a PR for me for the course, and the second fastest 5k I've ever run.

1-8:30 (uphill)

2-8:01  (first half of the mile was uphill)

3-6:51 (very fast downhill at the end--we ended in Memory Grove)

We all did really well.  Craig Green won the race overall.  He got a little gold statue of a runner.  It's a really fun race to start off the running season!

Congratulations! Great race!

Thanks so much! I'm sorry you are dealing with knee pain. That must be pretty discouraging. One of my friends ran Moab last week with a stress fracture in her foot. Now she needs surgery--I think she may go crazy not running for awhile. Hope you can get some rest and recover soon!

An 8 mile warm up seems crazy to me, but it looks like it did you well! Good job today!

Great run today. That is so brutal going uphill in the aves huh?

From Christina on Sat, Mar 15, 2008 at 18:26:48

Yeah, the avenues are very humbling to say the least! It sounds like the 10 miler you did today was pretty brutal. Be careful, or you may need to sit out with Dominique as well! I hope she can be back soon.

WOW! What a great race & PR for you today! So this was in the avenues? Tough Hills! And still an awesome time!! * mile warm up too, you're in great shape! (thanks for commenting on my race too!)

Yeah no doubt christina, those hills we ran today had tons of ice on them. Im curious to hear of anyone hurting themselves. Hopefully Dominique will be back on track sooner than later. But if I do get injured it would be nice to have someone next to me while I knit. lol see ya

Well done on a race well ran and a course PR. An 8 mile warmup is scary, but a new idea for me for pre-race nerves.

From Tracy1 on Sun, Mar 16, 2008 at 21:32:42

Good comments on Coach's pre-race instructions! Yeah and with the cold yesterday, I'm sure our 8 mile warmup did a lot of good, just think how much colder our bones would have been!! Probably as cold as your hands!
