AM: I met up with Josh and Megan at 5:30. I had an early meeting so I had to run a little earlier today. We did a nice loop around the U, Federal Heights, Ensign, and over to the Capitol. Nice temperatures, though a little muggy. Eleven miles for the run, ~ 1:30.

By the way, I watched Sammy Wanjiru win the Olympic marathon on the NBC Olympics site the other night. They have an encore video that is about an hour and a half long. Wanjiru is 5' 4" and 112 pounds. The runner from Ethiopia who took third appeared to be about half a foot shorter. I had to ask myself ... if that is the ideal size profile, what business do I have thinking the marathon is the event for me? I should probably be throwing the shot put or something.

PM:  I ran home from work, via the west downtown route. The AST Dew Extreme Sports ExtremeExtravaganzapalooza is going on by the Delta Center and I got to see, well, hear mostly, some supercross bikes flying through the course.  That mixed things up at the end of the day. Four miles total.

Did you run in College and High School or just High school? I am impressed with your blog and would like to be able to put in the type of mileage you do.

Thanks in advance of your response!

Thanks for your message. I ran competitively when I was young, up until about age 14, as a sprinter and hurdler. Injuries and burnout kept me from running in high school. Not running in high school kept me from running in college. It was after college, at age 25, that I decided to start running again. I was terribly, terribly out of shape, but I kept at it and enjoyed it a lot. Good luck in your training, let me know if there is anything I can help with.

Chad, maybe rythmic gymnastics is your true athletic calling!

High jump. Or javelin, with you being the javelin :)

Thanks for the inspiration. I played Division I football in college and started running afterwards. I am now 25 and have ran pretty consistently for about 2 years. I have only ran competitively twice, both half-marathons, and enjoyed it immensley. I am hopefully going to get more mileage in and continue to work to get faster and more consistent. I appreciate your words and I will definitely pick your brain throughout my running adventures.

Thanks

Question about the last 4 weeks?

I have been following a revised Pfitz 18/70. I am planning on doing 20 miles this sunday (4 weeks); 22 next sunday (3 weeks) and then 17 the next sunday (2 weeks) and the final sunday before will be a 12 miler.

does this sound about right?
