Short-Term Running Goals:

Now that I'm (almost for sure) done having all the babies, I'm working on building consistency and seeing how fast I can get in my old age. ;)

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'd like to be a healthy and relatively injury-free runner for the rest of my life.

Personal:

I'm married to Eric (Faceless Ghost on the blog) and we have very active daughters and one dog. I have a PhD in sociology and demography, and I'm incredibly grateful to have work that is meaningful and that builds on my academic experience. I run because it makes me feel strong and it helps to keep the crazy away (there is a long history of abuse and mental illness in my extended family).

We got to the gym at about 5:15, a little later than normal. I decided to slow my miles down by about 30 seconds this week and see if that helps me feel more motivated to run. If losing ounces on shoes is associated with tiny increases in speed (according to Eric), it makes sense that gaining pounds of fat (or baby...whatever) should be associated with a little bit of decrease. So today's 5 were at 9:05 (or 9:04 or whatever is 6.6 on the treadmill), but with the last half of mile 4 at 6:00 to help me not feel lazy. The faster part was kind of hard, and I'm glad it only lasted 3 minutes, but it was nice to shake out my legs.

Five miles, all at about 9:05, in the Cardio Cinema. What Women Want made the time seem to go by faster.

I've been doing the stairs at work (29 flights) every day with a couple of coworkers, and I'm looking forward to not having sore calves.

Eric wasn't running this morning until after his final (his first law school final!), so I slept in with him until about 6:30 and got to the gym at about 7:00. The first two miles were at 8:00, and the last three were at 9:05. My legs and feet felt more sore than normal today, and I thought about bailing early, but I knew I wouldn't come back after work and I didn't want to be bummed at myself for not getting 5 for the day.

Good luck today, Eric!

My calves and feet were sore for the whole run this morning. It's either from having the most consistent week I've had for over a month, or from doing the stairs at work, or from not eating/sleeping enough (and not recovering like normal), or from losing fitness due to weight gain/pregnancy. I'm voting for the first two (but probably mostly the stairs because it feels exactly like I've been running barefoot). 9:05 for all. The girl next to me doing 7:30s made me feel a little wussy, but just because I'm not there now doesn't mean I won't ever be.

No running today. Kind of on purpose, kind of not.

I was planning on 8, but then I figured there was no reason I couldn't do 2 more. 9:05 for the first, 9:13 until the last half mile, then 7:30 for the last half. It was a little painful at the end because I haven't run that far at once for awhile, but the pace was nice and easy so that helped. Though maybe it wouldn't have hurt at all if I had finished sooner? I don't know.
