Short-Term Running Goals:

Now that I'm (almost for sure) done having all the babies, I'm working on building consistency and seeing how fast I can get in my old age. ;)

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'd like to be a healthy and relatively injury-free runner for the rest of my life.

Personal:

I'm married to Eric (Faceless Ghost on the blog) and we have very active daughters and one dog. I have a PhD in sociology and demography, and I'm incredibly grateful to have work that is meaningful and that builds on my academic experience. I run because it makes me feel strong and it helps to keep the crazy away (there is a long history of abuse and mental illness in my extended family).

Today was the first Monday in a few months that I haven't had to drive Elliott to/from Bountiful before/after working a long day. Yay! (But my mom misses taking care of her.) Three miles in the gym in the afternoon.

We had our physicals tonight for our life insurance applications. I wore my cascadias because I'm afraid of having a higher premium because my BMI is lower. I wish they'd go by % fat or something.

On the treadmill at the gym. A little too soon after eating. But the soup I had for dinner was so good that I didn't mind and I'm even looking forward to having it tomorrow (for the third day in a row). For reals. Here's the recipe.

2 cans diced tomatoes (including liquid)

2 cans chili beans (drained)

1 diced sweet potato (but we'd probably do 2 if we made it again)

1 cup corn

1 chopped onion

1 tbsp chopped/minced/whatever garlic

1.5 tbsp chili powder, 1.5 tsp cumin, 2 tbsp brown sugar

Everything goes in the crock pot for awhile.

Super lame about all the cold tonight. Three treadmill miles.

About halfway through I got some kind of nerve-ish pain in my right bumcheek. I finished my planned 3 miles, but over the next couple of days I'll have to figure out if I just need to stretch more or if I'm increasing mileage too quickly. Since quitting the church job my goal is 20 miles/week for probably a couple of months while I get my body used to running consistently. I feel like 20 miles isn't too big of a jump even if I wasn't running at all (but I was running some), but maybe it is. Or maybe it was just one of those random still-lactating-and-so-still-have-loose-joints (that's real, right?) pains.

All I wanted in the world tonight was to not go to the gym. I think mostly because I lost my keys yesterday and I didn't want to have to ask for a new tag thing. And also because I was tired. I was going to wait until Elliott was asleep, and then I got distracted by something else, and then she woke up, and then I was going to go after she was asleep again, and then I looked for my keys for awhile, and finally I was able to haul myself out the door. As I was leaving I said, "I could already be asleep by now." Eric said, "Yes, and even having finished your run." By the time I got to the gym I only had time for 2 miles before they closed. But at least it was no big deal getting a replacement pass.

No bumcheek pain (must have been a fluke), but some calf pain that just felt like normal running-muscle growing pain.

Speaking of weight (like I was earlier this week), I saw this on my cousin's husband's facebook page and thought it was funny:

"The trick is to keep losing weight until your friends and family ask you if you've been sick. then you know you're within 10 pounds. if they start whispering to each other, wondering if you've got cancer or aids, you're within 5. When they actually do an intervention, you're at race weight."
