Short-Term Running Goals:

Now that I'm (almost for sure) done having all the babies, I'm working on building consistency and seeing how fast I can get in my old age. ;)

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'd like to be a healthy and relatively injury-free runner for the rest of my life.

Personal:

I'm married to Eric (Faceless Ghost on the blog) and we have very active daughters and one dog. I have a PhD in sociology and demography, and I'm incredibly grateful to have work that is meaningful and that builds on my academic experience. I run because it makes me feel strong and it helps to keep the crazy away (there is a long history of abuse and mental illness in my extended family).

*Loved* the canyon with the tailwind. The last three miles were less fun.

I was glad to be able to exchange my XS shirt for a small (kudos to the race directors (and/or the shirt manufacturers) for having shirt sizes not based on the assumption that people in the race would be bigger than average).

I attribute the 10-minute PR almost entirely to not having to visit a port-a-potty once during the race (first time ever for a half-marathon).

Splits: 7:18, 7:29, 7:30, 7:55, 7:31, 7:34, 7:32, 7:23, 7:38 (thank you, girl in orange shirt, for being so consistent through miles 5-9 and not seeming to mind that I was matching your steps (though maybe you did mind, and you slowed down to lose me)), 8:06, 8:51 (I lost the mental game for a bit here), 7:49, 7:21 (0.1-ish).

WOW!! Wonderful run Catherine! A 10 minute PR is amazing in a 1/2 - and I'm sure it's not ALL potty stops! CONGRATS!

10 minutes?!! Great PR and a great time!

Great job today. You ran an excellent race and you should be as proud of yourself as I am.

I am so happy that you did not have to visit the porta potty, that is a great achievement in a race!!! Seriously, those things just suck the life out of you and your race time.

Great job on a MASSIVE pr, that is incredible!

Now, you have to be kidding about the shirts (that or you are TINY). I exchanged my M for a L. The M was like a belly shirt and the L is still pretty snug. They are cute and I like the fit, but man they are tiny!

From catherine on Sun, Aug 29, 2010 at 20:22:55 from 69.169.157.242

Thanks everyone. Kelli - I probably could/should have gone another size up even after trading. A little longer would have be nice.

From Kelli on Sun, Aug 29, 2010 at 22:01:22 from 71.219.102.155

HEY---if the medium would fit you then you are still tiny!!!!! I wanted an XL!

I do agree, though, race shirts are usually massive.

Nice running there! I really like that course when its not so humid and Im not sick. lol I was sad for the womens shirts! the guys finally got the sizes right! I love mine! The color is a bit femmy, but I like those tech shirts. Maybe next year they will get it right. Keep up the good work.

From Kelli on Mon, Aug 30, 2010 at 09:23:35 from 71.219.102.155

I ran in my super sexy tight shirt this morning! Actually, I got a large so it is not super tight, just super short. I love the color!

From Jason McK on Mon, Aug 30, 2010 at 12:04:42 from 63.255.173.99

Regarding the shirt - After seeing the color on FB, I opted for a female shirt that I gave to my wife. Is it just me, or is this color a little more feminine than most race shirts?

From Kelli on Mon, Aug 30, 2010 at 13:10:24 from 71.219.102.155

That was nice of you Jason!

I didn't think it was, but I guess it kind of is now that I really look at it. But I saw lots of men running in them at the race and it did not SCREAM "femmy!!!"
