Short-Term Running Goals:

Now that I'm (almost for sure) done having all the babies, I'm working on building consistency and seeing how fast I can get in my old age. ;)

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'd like to be a healthy and relatively injury-free runner for the rest of my life.

Personal:

I'm married to Eric (Faceless Ghost on the blog) and we have very active daughters and one dog. I have a PhD in sociology and demography, and I'm incredibly grateful to have work that is meaningful and that builds on my academic experience. I run because it makes me feel strong and it helps to keep the crazy away (there is a long history of abuse and mental illness in my extended family).

Long day, even though I didn't go to work. I cried for a lot of the trip to Salt Lake for our 20-week ultrasound because of some story on the radio about a man who killed a puppy, and then I cried for most of the trip back to American Fork (fun day for Eric) after our afternoon appointment because I can't decide if we should keep going to our OB or switch to a midwife (more emotional support and still at the hospital with doctor backup, but what if something crazy happens?).

After I finished teaching my online class I was pretty tired, and I'm probably coming down with a cold, so I thought I'd be completely justified in skipping the gym and just going to bed. But then I thought that I'd probably be happier in the long run if I just went. And maybe it's lame, but seeing that Biggest Loser would still be on was kind of the deciding factor.

About 40 minutes walking up a fake hill, then the quad and hamstring machines. I don't care about my arms. They're dead to me.

And we're having a girl. She's fine so far. I might have some arrhythmia. We're thinking of naming her Elliot, but we're still open to suggestions.

P.S. I'm *totally* 117 and not 123 like the doctor's office scale said.

I always base my weight on my home scale too. Weighing in with clothes is overrated. Congrats on the girl and good luck with your decision.

Oh my Catherine, what a leaky morning!

Congratulations on the little girl!!

I believe that ALL doctors scales are calibrated to show 5 lbs high, I don't know why, but that has been my experience too, either that or you shouldn't have worn those 5 lb pair of shoes!!

Cheer up my dear:

A student visited his old school, 20 years after his graduation, and met an old Science professor of his. The professor happened to be grading exam papers, and the student was surprise to notice that the questions were exactly the same as they were two decades ago. He asked the professor about the possibility of the leakage of the exam paper such that the students would have known the questions in advance.

The professor smiled wryly and answered, "Don't worry about that, my dear boy. I've changed the answers every year."

Gotta love those pregnancy hormones that make us cry over everything. Congrats on the little girl!! I LOVED having a girl be my oldest, she has been such a wonderful help and little mama for all her brothers...I just wish I could've had one more girl, but it's not worth trying again and getting another boy! I'm very traditional with my names, but the girl name I never got to use is Sarah Grace.

Nice job getting to the gym inspite of yourself. Those are the hardest days! Oh, and I totally agree about the scale!

Rachel - Yeah, I think (I hope) it'll be good having a girl first. I hear they're harder when they become teenagers, though. And Sarah Grace is a really cute name. :)

Yay for a little girl!!!!! I'm so happy for you guys.

We are actually in the process of not protecting against getting pregnant any more and hope to have a little girl to finish off our family.

Don't worry about the hormones, it will pass. So excited for you guys.

Catherine how exciting! Congrats! I only have 1 girl. She is so cute and my best friend. You will love it. We are pitted up against the 4 boys in the fam.

I hope you aren't getting a cold. They are the worst. This time of year is all about the peak of cold and flu. No fun.

I have been a crying foo every time I was pregnant. It happens. I noted that I was the most emotional when I was expecting my daughter. To many female hormones in the mix perhaps.

So cool you are still working out. Nice work.

Jun - how exciting! Good luck. I hope everything goes well. :)

Lily - thanks. I feel like I'm not really working out so much since I'm not running, but I've got big plans to go into the next pregnancy (if I decide I can stand to do it again) in better shape and with more awareness of what's normal and what's not so that hopefully I'll be able to run more.
