Short-Term Running Goals:

Now that I'm (almost for sure) done having all the babies, I'm working on building consistency and seeing how fast I can get in my old age. ;)

Long-Term Running Goals:

I'd like to be a healthy and relatively injury-free runner for the rest of my life.

Personal:

I'm married to Eric (Faceless Ghost on the blog) and we have very active daughters and one dog. I have a PhD in sociology and demography, and I'm incredibly grateful to have work that is meaningful and that builds on my academic experience. I run because it makes me feel strong and it helps to keep the crazy away (there is a long history of abuse and mental illness in my extended family).

I went to my first Zumba class. Just for the last 30 minutes. It was fun, but I'm not sure yet how it's different from a dance aerobics class. I was afraid I'd be the most awkward person in the class, but I wasn't.

Then 3 miles on the treadmill in the cardio cinema to Return to Me. Not the best treadmill movie, but whatever.

Remember my friend who's trying to lose a lot of weight who goes to the gym every day and who inspires me to run every day? We're myfitnesspal.com friends and I noticed that she burns more calories walking for a half hour than I do running for a half hour. That doesn't seem fair. But it also doesn't seem fair if walking for her is the same effort as running is for me.

It's probably not fair that your your kid is cuter than hers (I am assuming she has a child), but that's life. I think you win. Ha.

I'm with Jun! That girl is just too cute!

As far as the calorie thing goes, I'm sure it has to do with the weight factor. If she is trying to lose a lot of weight, she probably weighs a lot more than you do. That is how you can calculate your calories/hour/mile etc. is by using primarily your weight. I burn only 3 calories more per mile running a 7mm than I do a 9mm, but I burn more per mile than most women because I'm tall (read: heavy). I get 120 (approx) per mile where most women only get 100 or less. So, if she weighs that much more than you she will burn more at a slower speed/cardio than you will, just because she has more weight to move around. It's a perk of being tall (read: heavy) :)

Zumba is a bit of a novelty for me, fun occasionally, but only when I'm in the mood. Glad you are doing well on the TM miles and hopefully your 'problem' is getting better?

Thanks, everyone! We like to look at her.

Rachel - no, the problem isn't better. I just decided that I'd rather deal with it than not run. And we have insurance again after the 18th, so I'll probably go to the doctor after that.
