Personal:

I have been married for almost 14 years to the best man in the whole world.  I have 5 awesome kids and am trying to "find joy in every journey."

I love to run because it involves only me and it challenges me.  It helps me feel good about myself.

Ok...so not far at all!!  I was ready to do 5 today and my tummy did not want me to!!!  I had a very angry tummy!

I am hoping that tomorrow will be better.  I am planning on doing a class and so we will see if I can get a run in tomorrow.  I may skip the class to run.

My next race in going to be the Thanksgiving Point half marathon @ the end of April.  My goal is to shave a few minutes off my last race.

So to all you really awesome runners....I need some speed training help.  I have no idea how to do it and need advice!!!  Or even better, if anyone wants to run with me to show me how I am down with that as well.  I know that I at least need to up my amount of running in a week to way more!!!  My goal: by the end of this summer I want to run a 2 hr. half marathon!  Here's to kicking some butt!!!

You can totally hit a 2hr half!! Kelli is the woman with speed work, I think she looks at workouts in books/magazines and just does them. I usually just copy her :)

You're not that far from a 2hr half-mary.

Have you looked into Halhigdon's training program? www.halhigdon.com I highly recommend it.

Thanksgiving Point Half is 12 weeks away, isn't it? Higdon's half marathon training schedules are 12 weeks. You can totally do it!

Have FUN training! :)

Oh, as for speedwork. Start simple, like some 400-800 repeats, jog w/ same amount of time in between for recovery. The idea for speedwork is to teach the body to run most efficiently so try to run these fast but controlled and relaxed, a good form is what you're aiming for.

Fartleks are also fun in the middle of a run. Or try progression run: e.g. in a 6 miler, run easy conversation pace the first couple miles, then pick up the pace the middle 2 miles at comfortably hard effort where you can speak 3-5 words answers; then the last mile or 2 run at 5K race pace effort where you can answer yes/no questions.

Anyway! Speed will come after you've put in some solid base miles.

Have fun!
