I didn't get a run in Saturday like I should have.  In the morning was my daughter's baptism and confirmation.  In the afternoon I did the temple work for my brother-in-law Jesus.  It was a pretty good weekend.  Yesterday was spent in anticipation that the crazy cast of Celebrity Apprentice wouldn't ruin the image of my snake oil company.

So this morning I thought I would have a great run being well rested and all.  But immediately I didn't feel too hot.  I felt like I was going to hurl so I kept it slow.  At the half way point I had pressure in my bowels.  I was disappointed because I tried to pinch a loaf before I left.  But I tried to keep my mind on something else to distract me.  It kept coming back to a certain blogger's race report who had colon bleeding after her marathon.  That didn't help much.

Time - 48:58 (avg. pace 8:53)

Splits - 8:53, 8:49, 8:52, 8:55, 8:50, 9:06

I'm not going to talk about that "other" subject, although I could thanks to an ill-mannered horse that traversed the sidewalk between today and yesterday.  Instead I want to talk about something else that is so embarrassing it makes my cheeks red - wedgies.

Lately it seems I've been getting more and more of them.  Or I've noticed them more.  Why am I constantly having to untuck?  I may be carrying around a little extra junk in the trunk.  I've been toying around with that Clydesdale division again.  I know it can't be suction.  More often than not I'm ventilating.  Well, two dollars to whomever can solve this mystery.

Lady Liberty hasn't been around the last two days.  Don't people still have to do their taxes?  Yesterday my last half mile was the slowest part of my run so today I purposefully picked up the pace.  However, coming down the home stretch I saw my neighbor Jeff.  A couple of months ago he got in a bad motorcycle accident.  He shattered his knee, broke his neck in two places, and had to get 16 stitches in his head.  He flagged me down.  He asked if I could help the tow truck driver load his hog up so it could get fixed.  I was happy to oblige.  I think he was happy that I got my sweaty DNA all over his bike, too.

Time - 46:22 (avg. pace 8:23)

Splits - 8:24, 8:21, 8:35, 8:34, 8:25, 4:02 for 0.53 (7:39 pace)

Today was weird.  I was in a great mood all day yesterday.  But I was a little cranky for sleeping in this morning.  So, I had a good run, but felt cranky about it.  I wanted to push the 5th mile because I usually just do my fast miles on mile 2.  I was pleased with my effort.

Time - 45:16 (avg. pace 8:13)

Splits - 8:42, 8:22, 8:24, 8:24, 6:54, 4:31 for 0.52 (8:46 pace)

Congratulations to TylerS and KellieS for the birth of their new baby daughter.  I have a feeling she's going to be fast.

And here's another picture of me from Del Sol for no particular reason.  Hee hee.

My back has been killing me the last couple of days.  I think I have Lily disease.  So I'm gonna take a rest day.  But I'm excited cuz it's Friday!

I almost forgot about this race until yesterday.  My friend Sheldon from my Utah Ragnar team told me about it.  He's good friends with the race director.  I think the RD was bitten with the running bug recently and wanted to see what it would be like to organize his own 5k race.  He did all right.  He only charged $5 or $10 if you wanted a shirt.

Well, it turns out that the RD was the nephew of my bishop.  When bishop showed up to run I was surprised because I thought he was going up to Salt Lake City for conference.  Guess he had a change of plans.  Anyway, when we registered for the race we were required to give our height and weight.  I think the RD came up with some kind of formula to stagger our starts based off height, weight, and gender.  I must be pretty heavy because only about 4 people started before me.

Bishop had an 11 minute head start.  I couldn't catch him.  Sheldon had a 5 minute start, and I was surprised that I caught him only about 1.5 miles into it, if that.  He's a pretty good runner, but he's not in shape right now.

There was a girl that started 7 seconds before me.  Or she was supposed to.  Bishop's brother was getting us started, but he wasn't calling out the time so we could know when to go.  I just stood there for about 7 to 10 seconds until I asked him if it was ok for me to go.  The girl looked like she was in pretty good shape.  I never could catch her, but I stayed right behind her the whole time.  This was a bit of a disadvantage for her because a couple of times she had to stop to make sure she was going the right way.  I just had to follow her.

The race started out on the road for about 0.6 miles.  It was downhill, and I noticed I was cruising along pretty effortlessly in the low 6's.  I reined it in because I knew I would be hitting the hills soon.  The first mile was 7:07.  The second mile was hillier and rockier.  I hit this one in 8:35.  The third mile, 9:47, was even hillier and rockier.  I kept saying to myself, "Don't lose that farmer's tan."  Yeah, the girl had a nice farmer's tan going.  However, I did lose her for a bit as she started putting a gap between us after a particularly tough hill.  But I had run the last 0.3 miles of the race during my warm up.  I knew there was a very crazy steep downhill part into a wash, then crazy uphill out of it.  After that, it was smooth sailing to the finish.  I knew I could make my move there.  Luckily the wash slowed her down, and I was able to make up some ground.  I averaged 7:20 for the last 0.19 miles.  I think I finished 3 or 4 seconds behind her.  But I have to wait 'til he posts the results on Facebook to see how I did.

Oh, one more thing, it's getting stinkin' hot here.  The high today is supposed to 93!
