Whenever I run this loop I go right by the alternative high school with the troubled teens that are out smoking and doing whatever it is little gang babies do.  When Julie and I ran the loop I took her up the canal to bypass these hoodlums.  Nevertheless, I have to believe that there is still hope for them.  That's why I make sure to tell them good morning every time I run by.  Some day they'll look back and say, "I don't know who it was, but this guy used to say good morning to me all the time.  He gave me hope when no one else would."

Time - 46:21 (avg. pace 8:30)

Splits - 8:35, 8:18, 8:15, 8:32, 8:43, 3:59

Dare you to give one of them a "good game."

From Burt on Tue, Apr 19, 2011 at 13:33:45 from 206.19.214.144

It wouldn't be illegal because most of those flunkies are over 18.

From SlowJoe on Tue, Apr 19, 2011 at 13:36:03 from 131.59.200.80

I'm guessing what they do to you afterward might be illegal though.

From Burt on Tue, Apr 19, 2011 at 13:37:56 from 206.19.214.144

haha!

From The Quiet Pirate on Tue, Apr 19, 2011 at 13:46:00 from 152.26.59.252

Precious little lambs. They've got good stories to tell if you've ever got time to listen.

Some of the best stories I ever heard were when I worked in the ISS room 2 hours every day.

From Squirrel on Tue, Apr 19, 2011 at 14:29:59 from 209.175.175.238

how do you post pictures? Do those sweet kids work on the flower garden cuz it is real pretty!

From julieesplin on Tue, Apr 19, 2011 at 14:40:15 from 75.169.178.105

You're changing lives Burt.

From Bonnie on Tue, Apr 19, 2011 at 14:46:59 from 128.196.228.134

As an older, and hopefully wiser, attendee of such an institution of learning, I am sure they are appreciative ... and, they probably think you are weird.

From Burt on Tue, Apr 19, 2011 at 15:06:11 from 206.19.214.144

QP - I uh don't have time to listen. A pleasant greeting is all they get.

Squirrel - I'll email you a powerpoint on posting pictures. If the kids worked on the flower garden, it would be full mostly of pot.

Julie - Just paying it forward.

Bonnie - you just cracked me up. Bravo.

From runningafterbabies on Tue, Apr 19, 2011 at 16:01:19 from 71.195.219.247

I'll bet Julie's husband could give you some advice on how to reach out to those precious children.

From JD on Tue, Apr 19, 2011 at 16:37:03 from 70.96.78.149

If only you had been around when I was a child playing with broken glass in the street. I'd probably be a better runner today...

From allie on Tue, Apr 19, 2011 at 16:38:12 from 161.38.218.168

hoodlums? i think i heard my great great grandmother say that word once, but i have no idea what it means. apparently it's family friendly, because i am still allowed access to your blog.

nice pool.

From Lily on Tue, Apr 19, 2011 at 17:31:20 from 67.199.178.210

Heeeey, I want to run with you two! :)

From Burt on Tue, Apr 19, 2011 at 17:41:41 from 206.19.214.144

Melody - Julie told me that her husband doesn't use spankings, but loves mental abuse.

JD - I'm sorry. I wish you weren't so old.

allie - it's a reflection pool. Can you see my reflection?

Lily - anytime you're in town we'll run the mean streets of Mesa.

From Merri on Wed, Apr 20, 2011 at 15:08:35 from 160.7.252.148

I think I heard a story like that at general conference...elder oaks I believe it was.

From allie on Wed, Apr 20, 2011 at 15:50:48 from 161.38.218.168

are you talking about lily cutting off her foot because the disney vault closed?

From Burt on Wed, Apr 20, 2011 at 15:59:24 from 206.19.214.144

Merri - you might be thinking of the story Pres. Hinckley told about a guy who threw a 20 lb. frozen turkey into someone's windshield.

allie - she didn't cut it off. She chewed it off like a rabid weasel.
