After I dropped my girls off at school, I drove up to South Mountain.  I haven't been there in forever, but it has the best hills, I think, for training for a Ragnar trail race.  The first mile and a quarter is on a dirt road.  Then you hit the trail.  The trail is much steeper and more technical.  I had to walk numerous times, even though I only went up three quarters of a mile.  I took some pictures at the top and ran back down.  On the way down I almost ran into a snake.  It wasn't a rattlesnake, but it scared the ladies that were on their way up.  I couldn't get a picture fast enough before it slithered away.  I also saw a turtle when I was driving out to the main road.  Some ladies were in the road making sure it got across safely.  It looked like a large red-eared slider, which are not native to hear.  It probably was once someone's pet and now lives in one of the ponds at the golf course.

You better hurry and get it before it gets put in a stew.

You wouldn't do that to Shelley! She has 329 children...

329 delicious children. And I did it to Hector Hardshell.

Hector deserved it...most self-righteous turtle ever.

We found a red-eared slider in our window sill once. We took it to the humane society and they had to keep it because apparently orange eared sliders are native to Colorado but not red-eared ones. Who knew?

You left that Turtle to die in the desert you meanie.

Don't make me cry from remorse, Nan!

I've been told that you shouldn't approach desert tortoises because you will scare them and they will pee and then they will die because they become dehydrated from loss of pee. But this isn't a desert tortoise so that's neither here nor there.

I am coming to love trail running. It is some much more fun than the slog of running on the road. Keep it up. Avoid the snakes though.

I'm due for a comment. Does that count?

Rhett - I may or may not have jumped a little.

Tara - I don't need your pity comments.
