I got all geared up to go today, but my calf was having none of it.  I stretched out and thought I was ready to go.  Then I took about three steps, stopped, turned around, and started stretching again.  I then tried again and got about 80 feet according to Garmin and said, "Forget it."  I don't like not being able to run; especially since I had been doing real good up to this point.  So I got on the stationary bike and pedalled for about 20 minutes.  I also have continued to do my strength conditioning.  I've done 50 sit-ups and 10 push-ups every day along with the occasional modified plank.  My wife massaged my calf, and that felt pretty good.  I was going to wear my head band double-looped around it today, but she took it off.  I did ice it a little last night.  So I am actually trying to nurse it, which is new for me.  I'm kind of bummed out though because I took almost two weeks off from running, and it hasn't seemed to help.  :(

sorry to hear about this, burt. these things are definitely frustrating. when i first read this i misunderstood and thought that your garmin said "forget it"

From Burt on Thu, Sep 24, 2009 at 13:08:24 from 68.76.197.194

It did Allie. My Garmin's a girl. She said, "Please don't do this to yourself. I hate to see you in pain. Let's go back inside." My wife gets so jealous.

From allie on Thu, Sep 24, 2009 at 13:14:48 from 67.177.43.41

oh, right, i forgot. her name is carmin, right? well doesn't she get jealous when your wife gives you a massage?

From Burt on Thu, Sep 24, 2009 at 13:23:10 from 68.76.197.194

Yeah. She probably won't turn on for me tomorrow.

From Nan Kennard on Thu, Sep 24, 2009 at 14:38:45 from 174.51.250.151

Hahah. Poor Carmin. She's just the other woman.

Sorry your calf is not treating you well, Burt. I think the double-looped headband wrap would have totally healed it. Too late now though.

Seriously though, keep up the massage and ice...this too shall pass.

Injuries are frustrating. Be patient and listen to your body--you will get back to running in no time!

Burt poor Carmen she must be in needing a rest LOL

Okay you rested for two weeks with no nursing, so you got lots of scar tissue if it was a pull, sounds like to me, so lots of massage and ice and heat. Try heating it up with either a warm bucket or heat rub, then stretch, then cycle with tippy toes for 5-10 mins before trying to run this may help I know it seems like lots but I did this and in time you just need to do a gentle jog to warm up then run, but all this helps reducing the scar tissue and making the muscle get back to normal elasticity..... Hey IM the expert on injuries now had so many..... LOL good luck Dude :-)

Poor Burt and Carmen! (At least your Carmen is still alive though LOL!)

Sam's advice is good, plus if you keep the stationary cycling going you will help minimize fitness losses. Hope you get it sorted soon

From auntieem on Fri, Sep 25, 2009 at 12:39:47 from 67.182.145.8

I think the headband idea was probably good. You can get those compression sleeves for calf muscles; just supports it a bit while you run. What if you walked for a mile, then broke into your jog?

Bodies are such frustrating and uncooperative things sometimes.

Yet so amazing, healing, powerful things other times....

No suggestions - just sympathy - that is really Sucky! I HATE being injured!

From Teena on Fri, Sep 25, 2009 at 15:32:15 from 67.177.20.13

Sorry Burt!! That stinks!!

Any chance it is feeling better today?

Glad you are babying it.

From Burt on Fri, Sep 25, 2009 at 16:13:42 from 68.76.197.194

Thanks for the sympathy everyone. But I don't need your pity! Just kidding. I love it. Hopefully I'll be better soon.
