The temp was 35° this morning.  At mile 5 I could still see my breath.  I started to think - isn't the reason why I can see my breath because the air I'm breathing out is warmer than the ambient temperature?  Shouldn't I at some point reach a state of equilibrium?  I guess so.  When I'm dead.

So I passed this guy walking down the street at mile 3.6.  Then at mile 5.3 I passed him again.  He was surprised to see me because I think he realized I just ran more than a mile and a half in the time it took him to walk half a mile.  He tried to make small talk with me, but I've got no time for that.  I'm a stuck up runner for crying out loud.

Time - 44:28 (avg. pace 8:02)

Splits - 8:09, 8:00, 8:04, 8:06, 7:53, 4:17 for 0.53 (8:01 pace)

if you were in an adiabatic system, you would reach such a state of equilibrium, but since you were in an open system (and producing heat from chemical energy, to boot...) such a state of equilibrium would be difficult to attain...

From Lily on Wed, Jan 05, 2011 at 11:38:13 from 67.199.181.73

duh! Yeah you are stuck up

From Burt on Wed, Jan 05, 2011 at 12:11:22 from 206.19.214.144

Nevels - in this house we obey the laws of thermodynamics!

Lily - talk to the hand.

From DonGardinero on Wed, Jan 05, 2011 at 13:02:25 from 67.2.84.77

Oh, you're one of THOSE runners.

From Chad on Wed, Jan 05, 2011 at 13:51:46 from 168.177.153.5

I assumed you would be impossible to shut up.

From Burt on Wed, Jan 05, 2011 at 13:58:56 from 206.19.214.144

DG - I did talk to him, but it was while I was on the run. No way I was going to stop and talk.

Chad - I'm only impossible to shut up online. In person I'm very shy. Ask any of the 38 bloggers I've met in real life.

From Bonnie on Wed, Jan 05, 2011 at 14:05:02 from 128.196.228.134

Chad ... it is a fact, despite his non-stop chatter on the blog, in real life he is incredibly shy (or stuck up, I originally thought shy, but now that I think about it ...). I think maybe he is not shy, but he does live with a bunch of women (none of whom seemed shy to me) so maybe he is just the thoughtful, introspective sort ;-)

From DonGardinero on Wed, Jan 05, 2011 at 14:14:32 from 173.127.39.94

Burt, I'm THe same way. talk a lot on the blog, but in person you can't get a word out of me. People always tell me I laugh at everything, so if you and I ever meet, we can just stand there and laugh like BeavIs and Butthead to avoid any awkwardness.

From RAD on Wed, Jan 05, 2011 at 14:47:52 from 67.172.229.125

YES! We have now discovered the blog Beavis and Butthead...now which one is which?

Nice work on that run today Burt! Nice speed and miles to boot. Walkers, psshh! Who needs 'em?!?

From Brent on Wed, Jan 05, 2011 at 15:06:56 from 168.178.30.219

Burt and Ernie, does not take much effort to give the poor guy a few grunts, maybe pass some wind his way, just the right thing to do.

Back to running, nice avg pace, faster and faster.

Stay Kool, B of BS Rools out

From april27 on Wed, Jan 05, 2011 at 15:19:56 from 165.138.243.1

Wow i had no idea how stuck you were! this explains soo much!

From Burt on Wed, Jan 05, 2011 at 15:25:08 from 206.19.214.144

Bonnie - maybe I'm just a creeper like RAD said.

DG - If I can throw a few Dr. Hibbert random laughs in there too, I'm golden.

Brent - You never know what you'll get when you pass wind on a run.

April - The hand. Talk to it.

From april27 on Wed, Jan 05, 2011 at 15:27:05 from 165.138.243.1

Talk to the finger cuz the hand ain't listen'

From Burt on Wed, Jan 05, 2011 at 15:28:33 from 206.19.214.144

April! That's it. I'm going to lunch. When I get back I expect a 750 word essay on how sorry you are for that last comment!

From april27 on Wed, Jan 05, 2011 at 15:31:46 from 165.138.243.1

Psh!!! As if!

From PRE on Wed, Jan 05, 2011 at 18:04:05 from 99.50.214.225

Great pace Burt.

From Rhett on Wed, Jan 05, 2011 at 18:06:27 from 74.32.222.21

Way to leave the walker in your dust Burt. :)

From SlowJoe on Wed, Jan 05, 2011 at 18:41:26 from 214.13.130.104

Nice snub, he was not worthy to talk to you.

From ChrisM on Thu, Jan 06, 2011 at 03:54:22 from 86.150.0.116

Death is the ultimate equilibrium...

When passing walkers I like to go to hi-five them and then KO them. Ha. Walk on that.

From rAtTLeTrAp on Thu, Jan 06, 2011 at 09:50:28 from 76.121.76.165

I thought you had to ride a bicycle to be a stuck up snob. Oh wait, never mind.

From PRE on Thu, Jan 06, 2011 at 20:37:10 from 99.50.214.225

You blogged Scott on the 4th. I read it on the 4th. And the 5th. On the 5th, I realized what you were talking about.

Very funny!

From Burt on Fri, Jan 07, 2011 at 00:46:06 from 72.223.84.236

Huh, I put Tuesday's run on Monday and Wednesday's run on Tuesday. Oh well.

From Karen on Fri, Jan 07, 2011 at 01:50:57 from 69.171.160.82

Burt-again, i mention febreeze...perhaps a little personal running size one that you can tie to your shoe? When passing walkers, i usually give them a little "good game" and a pat on their hineys...I make more friends that way!

From Burt on Fri, Jan 07, 2011 at 08:27:34 from 72.223.84.236

Pat their hineys? I like your style. Your hand would be soaking wet if you pat mine.

From Nan on Fri, Jan 07, 2011 at 16:09:44 from 98.245.117.176

Man you really are a snob. If you think that guy actually calculated how far you ran between the two times he saw you, think again. He was too busy thinking about his own problems. Next time you could at least give him a high five or a "Have a good day," or something.
