Since I was so nice and stretched out from yesterday's P90X X Stretch I decided to do a couple of surges on my little 2 mile run.  First I ran 0.61 miles at an 8:45 pace, then I picked it for 0.36 miles at a 5:45 pace.  Next I ran 0.60 miles at an 8:51 pace, then I tried another surge, but wimped out.  I ran 303 feet at a 5:37 pace.  I finished the last 0.38 at an 8:32 pace.

I'm excited to start the second phase of P90X this evening.  I'll be doing a new workout I haven't done yet.

**************************************************************************

I noticed I was two pounds lighter after my run this morning.  This means I lose one pound of sweat per mile.  How much is that volumetrically?  Assumptions: 1) Sweat has the same specific weight as sea water.  2) Atmospheric conditions and 32° F.  Let's see.  Sea water weighs 64.08 lb/ft3.  There are 7.48 gallons in a cubic foot.  There are 16 cups in a gallon.  Awesome!  That's 1.87 cups per mile.

***************************************************************************

I also rode my bike 5 miles to and from work, swam 70 yds, and jumped off the high dive.

Day 29 P90X - Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps/Ab Ripper X

Was that just hard because I've never done it before? or did I actually push myself to the limit?  Good golly!

P90X...mmm... is this some running routine? I seem to remember this being a running blog ...

don't know, maybe all these medicines I'm taking are giving me some side effects above my shoulders too...

=)

Eric - P90X is a series of workout DVD's. I'm trying to work the other parts of my body that don't get worked out by just running. It's a big time commitment each day, but I'm determined to do the full 91 days.

allie - Day 30 = pictures.

That's fast. Great job!

From Burt on Mon, Aug 02, 2010 at 12:39:34 from 206.19.214.144

Steve - it was only fast for a brief time. Hard to believe I could run way faster than that for much longer back in the day...

From CookieLegs on Mon, Aug 02, 2010 at 12:55:06 from 155.101.152.105

Nice fast pace on those surges. And, a surge is a surge regardless of distance!

From Lily on Mon, Aug 02, 2010 at 15:38:49 from 67.199.181.73

SICK on the sweat math problem. That makes me wonder how much I might sweat on an average day. Icky!

I like to do surges quite frequently. It makes me feel manly don't ya know? hahaha j/k I just like to be fast....

LOVE IT!!! :)

Nice speed, I guess the P90X gives you the strength and looseness to run that fast, or do you think you could do it anyway?

From Burt on Mon, Aug 02, 2010 at 16:20:10 from 206.19.214.144

Thanks Adele. You know I love encouragement.

Lily - You can never be on my Ragnar team because you're too fast. JK!

Teena - you're a school girl. I hope you checked my math.

flat - I think one of the benefits of this cross training is the increased speed. Flexibility = faster.

Assuming 250 calories burnt and 3500 calories in a pound you lost .07 pounds of fat on the run. There is 8.35 pounds in a gallon or .52 pounds in a cup of water. So .14 total or .07 cups per mile should be removed for actual weight loss.

You lose 2-5 grams of water per minute by breathing during exercise, depending on how heavy you are breathing and the humidity. but that probably accounts for 1/4 of a cup over the entire run.

Still a whole lot of sweat. How accurate was this scientific study. Did you weigh yourself without the sweat soaked clothes or was only the evaporated sweat was measured?

Also I think it is only valid over short distances. I don't think the rate of sweating remains constant.

From Burt on Mon, Aug 02, 2010 at 16:45:41 from 206.19.214.144

AZDM - it was very accurate. I'm pretty sure you forgot to carry the one and quite possibly did not convert from English units to SI. I'll throw a best fit regression trend line on my data later.

Yes! I could totally recycle with one of those.

A fellow blogger told me that Burt had made a commercial in relation to all of this sweat talk. I didn't believe it was him until they pointed out that these movie star types use a lot of make up. Take a look and see for yourself:
