I started running again in 2007 after 14 years of not running.

Ay, mis nalgas!  Since I left my truck at work yesterday when I ran home, I either had to hitch a ride with my coworker or ride a bike.  I opted to take my son's mountain bike.  The nice thing was that I could ride on the dirt road along the railroad track and cut off 2.5 miles from my regular bike commute.  The not so nice thing was that I was riding on a dirt road along the railroad track without a seat cushion.  Also, the seat loosened up before the halfway point and started doing the up-down-won't-stay-in-one-place thing.  Not fun.  It took me 97 minutes to get to work.  That's only 35 minutes faster than it took me to run home.

I've decided to convert my bike miles into running miles this year since everyone else does.  I think my effort was equivalent to 13 minute miles running.  Tell me if you think that's lame.

I don't think its lame andI don't convert bike, ellipitcal, rowing, or swimming miles. If you want to do it just do it. Try not to over think it to much and concentrate on putting in the time.

I agree with Matt. Just do it if you want to, don't if you don't. I was converting cross training miles for a while, but then decided that I don't really care because I'm not hung up on my weekly mileage when I'm cross training anyway. The point is that I get out and exercise every day and that is good. Weekly mileage can just drive you crazy sometimes, I think.

I convert some other activities into crosstraining miles. Really just biking and pool running I guess. I use 12 minutes on the bike equal to 1 mile running. My training plan calls for some biking workouts (because I think my trainer secretly wants my to go tri), so I include those workouts. I don't think its lame or not lame, its just biking. But my training is not about mileage anyway. Enjoy the bike rides!

I vote NOT LAME. I think biking is harder than running and can't hardly stand to sit on seat--especially with no cushion and your seat malfunction that is extra points for discomfort.

Actually, I like your idea of leaving a vehicle at work and running home. I've been trying to figure out how to run to work BUT also have car there in case the elementary school calls. You've just answered that question for me. Thanks!!

Nice run on Thursday Burt. I vote to not count them for data capturing purposes (shoes, weekly mileage, etc.) but I don't know how much you go back and analyze you numbers (aren't you an engineer)? Anyway, well done on the human-powered commuting.

I didn't remember what nalgas meant so I looked it up...how embarrassing. You'd think I'd remember that one from college or high school.

I'm neutral on whether to log the biking as running miles. If it helps you keep track of your "exercise effort" each week, go for it. I think the only time it would be an issue is if you were really hung up on being on top of the mileage board; then it probably wouldn't be fair. Perhaps this is a non issue now, tho, considering your bum got pretty sore? Oh, can we expect a nice graph from you detailing what everyone's responses were??

I dont and wouldnt ! its lame its useless, why do it?? I dont inc my xtrainer mileage, I go on the xtrainer every time I run just to warm up I could add a mile or two each time.

I want to know what Mileage I have run or jogged or walked briskly I do add on very odd occasions brisk walking only when I am so sore that it felt like running anyways ha ha LOL

I know a few people claim theyre doing like 12-14 miles a day...... only the odd person I really dont think they are it drives me mad sometimes, but hey who cares anyway! I only say about it to Chris as its funny I dont care really Burt, you should care more about your own mileage.... what do you get for being on the top of the board anyway.....nothing ha LOL

But if you want to do it I wouldnt scream at you or complain I upset one or two peeps last week by a mistake ha ha ha 125 miles in one day LOL :) enough blubbering on over and out dude

Here's the bottom line. I told myself a long time ago that I wouldn't do that. But last year I got so close to 1000 miles on the year and didn't quite make it. I knew I would have made it if I would have converted my cycling miles over. So I got the idea that I should do it, but now I'm going to stick to my guns. Thanks everyone.
