Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Sunday morning came without no warning, sunday, sunday, without the mamas.   Spent the morning getting ready for my dad's birthday party at our house this afternoon.  I was about to shower, Sylvie was headed out for run in the heat, well, what the heck, I will give it a shot.  It was a fun run following her along the dirt trail along the river, we ran 3 of the 4 miles on the trail.   It seems few runners use this trail, don't know why, gives you a break from the heat running in the shade.  We ran to 4800 south and home, past the never bear.   Hopefully, will get in a few miles biking this afternoon.

40 miles spinning, avg. effort, this week will be many spinning miles the next three days, may take off thursday and friday to taper for the 15 mile trail race on saturday.  I would not normally taper for such a race, but, reading the race profile, seems like a hard race.

Early morning run, sluggish run, 78 degrees and humid, nice to get out, stopped a few times to stretch.  During the last 1/2 home, a lady was running with two dogs in front of me, one of the dogs was a pit bull.   Now what do you do in this situation when you want to pass a pit bull?  Well, a made a couple of grunting noises, thinking the lady heard me, now everything would be ok.   As I started making the pass, the pit bull lunged at me and the lady was startled, she had not heard me, I made a jump to the left and the dog ran out of leash, one of those darn long leashes.   I almost pepper spayed the dog.  Too much excitement for 5 a.m.

Spinning, two hours while watching a re-run of the Pitt NC bowl game.  I am a college football junkie, wanted to see Pitt play as they play Utah the first game.  The Pitt Offensive line is very good holding blocks with a crafty back waiting for running lanes.  Anyway, off day from running.  75 ball crunches, bench press two sets 8 reps, other free weights.

Unevenful run, yea, no dogs, horizontal lightning accross the southern sky during the run, pretty and scary, equals pretty scary?  Nice morning for a run, practiced turnover.  Semi taper mode.

Tough race on all dirt road. Two long uphill sections tougher than veyo. Beautiful run in dixie national forest. Gave superfly a high five as he was leading the race. Happy with this 1st in div. Passed my div competition with 1.5 miles left, finished ahead of sylvie 2 min. Sylvie won her div and got two nice running shirts. Did I say this race was hard. Will add more later.

Brutal, tough on the feet, wind, rain, 7,000 feet elevation, rough road, steep down, steep up - what else is there to say, mental toughness builder for St.George, what we wanted from the race.   I have much more respect for trail runners after this race, darn tough to run on slipping, uneven ground while going up and down for 15 miles, well, about 13.5, the other 1.5 was flat.   One note, both me and Sylvie got a little quizzee during the race, high elevation run.
