Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Swim, 1250 yrds -  Spin classs after work with Sylvie, good effort.  I normally do not buy many race pictures, bought 2 today from the Tri.  It is time to post something new on my blog.  Found out today that I was 4th from last out of the pool, my swimming needs work.  We have two 5K races the next two weeks, no expectations, hope to break my Ogden time.

Fun Times Ahead, me and Sylvie are going to Bryce in July, Sylvie running the half and me the 5K, we are staying at Ruby's on friday and two nights at the Boulder Mountain lodge, dinner at Hell's backbone.  The scenary is just fantastic.  I am taking my bike for an early morning bike ride on the Burr Trail.  Life is great.  Darn, I would like to run the half, if not for all the steep downhill.

12th year we have run this race.  Sylvie is an oil paint artist, so, we support the artists, run the race and get a free ticket to the festival.

Pre race stuff - tired legs, racing two weeks in a row.  Me and Sylvie had some friendly jabbing and gabbing before the race on who would finish first.   The race was on.

Sylvie, very good downhill runner, took off like a shot.  She quickly had a 150 yrd lead on me when we hit this first hill, made up about 25 yards up on the hill.  I had hopes of catching her on the Rose Garden hill, she was running strong, made up 50 yards.  Sylvie increased he lead until we hit the wet long grass.  Over half the race was run on long wet grass on the outside of the park.  By the time we hit the south side of the park, caught Sylvie and encouraged her to hang on.  Finished about 1 minute ahead.  Running in the wet grass played to my strength, passed a dozen runners the second half.  Mad dash to the finish, the first place guy in my division crossed 5 seconds ahead, the 2nd and 3rd cross after me.  boom, boom, boom, boom, not often runners in the division finish that close together, took fourth my less than 1 second, chip time got me.   It was nice to chit chat with a few runners about the race.

Post race thoughts, very happy with the effort, having only ran a dozen times this year, nice to mentally hang on.   Future week training plans, run 1 or 2 days on dirt each week, working on speed and endurance.  My time was 32 seconds faster than the Odgen 5k on a tougher course, hope this means good things.

Post Race Awards - second took second, she is a tough, seems to place in her division almost every race.   The dodo served us all breakfast, it was great.

Yard Sales - this was the day - wearing running garb to yard sales pays off.  I was wearing my CW-X shorts, a lady asked my how I like them, I said great.  She then goes on to tell me that she is a model for the tights, tops, etc. and has some freebies for sale.  I got a brand new pair of winter running tights CW-X and a new shirt for $25.   She gave me a discount card to use on-line, she thinks it is 50% off.

Next yard sale, Sylvie says, look at that sign, they are selling Nascar diecast.  Bought 16 cars, added to my collection, now have over 500 diecast Nascars, favorite driver Jeff Gordon.  The best buy was an Ernie Irvin 1991  1/24th size.  I know, this has nothing to do with running, but darn Kool to get these buys.

Later this day - The Arts Festival, walking around for two hours on tired legs, good people watching.  Sylive bought a Namesta carving on stone San scrit and some weird little house of hores yard art.   Long day, need some off the feet time.  50 mile ride planned tomorrow with major hill climbing.
