Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

What is going on Brent? This sounds ominous ...

Just read that you had surgery! I hope everything went well and you recover fast as lighting. Let us know....

From Tom on Thu, May 22, 2008 at 18:39:53

Brent your entry today sounds too much like a farewell to running and perhaps to the blog also. I really hope I'm reading more into it than what is actually there. I hope and pray things went well with the surgery. Please keep us informed. The blog would not be the same without your wisdom, wit, encouragement and support.

From Kim on Thu, May 22, 2008 at 19:16:00

Brent,

We sire hope you are OK! You are in our thoughts and prayers!

From Mike Warren on Thu, May 22, 2008 at 23:43:50

Brent, what surgery? I hope you are ok! Let us know if everything turned out ok. You get alot of props for your running. The truth of the matter is, your 1000 times the person as you are the runner. Please let us know if we can help. Hang in there pal, were all praying and pulling for you!

From Christi on Fri, May 23, 2008 at 09:24:50

More details please! My thoughts are with you wishing you a fast recovery!!

From Michael on Fri, May 23, 2008 at 11:46:37

Hope the surgery was successful. I think cartlidge thinning out is a challenge for us "older runners". I know the running on the softer surfaces helps me. Im going to have to be careful as that hip is bothering me again where they say it is thinning out.

Anyway, one of your previous blogs said, you thought you could still return someday. Never, never give up or quit that dream. Things change and can get better and you have plenty of time left. There is still the potential to enjoy running, I know I like to get out even if it is my slow speed jog or my attempt to be competitive at a 5K. It may be a little mental challenging and disappointing, but just take it one step at a time. Tommorow can happen and the Kool-Aid Kid can return!

From Maria on Fri, May 23, 2008 at 14:28:04

Brent, I'm glad you had the surgery - it is a positive step, trying to do something about the issue rather than give up or wait passively. I hope it will heal relatively soon and you can start running again, gradually. Hang in there - things WILL get better, you just need a lot of patience. But you may be able to start biking/swimming pretty soon, as it's non impact. What are doctors saying, how long do you have to wait before any kind of exercise? You have a great spirit, and it will pull you through. Your contributions to the blog make it a better place for everyone. So cheer up, and know that you WILL be back!!

From Jayden & Eric on Sun, May 25, 2008 at 19:28:47

Hey, we just heard about your Friday procedure, and we trust everything will work out in time. Be patient and do the rehab, and things will work out for the best! You are an inspiration!! Are thoughts and prayers are of you!

Your neighbors...

I didn't know you had knee surgery. Hope that I see you on the Jordan trail again soon. It may be a different direction for you but hopefully not the end of the road. Don't know if your a religious man or not but prayers be with you. Dark Horse out..
