Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Water World - 1 hr acqua jogging, miss the runner's high, crazy things on the trail, cold mornings, moon shadows and dogs of leashes.

Dry Ground - Lunch Time - 30 minutes excercisse bike and 1/2 mile on the treadmill, 8 min mile pace.  I wish that I could say the knee was ready to go.  This will be a slow comeback process.  Also, hamstring curls, abductors, bench press.

When you get the opportunity for a runner's high again it is going to be amazing! It will be well worth the wait!

Talking about moon shadows...this morning Tom and I thought we were coming up behind two other runners in the dark. We finally realized it was us! The shadows are a little funky in the early morning hours!

Ah, man. This knee is really trying to teach you patience isn't it? You're doing GREAT with the x-training, keep it up!

From Brent on Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 14:50:43

Christi, I am not usually the whining, venting type person.

If you don't mind, no need in answering, just a little venting. Yesterday was a tough day, I tried running 1/2 mile on the treadmill, no way, the knee did not do well with the compression. I called my doctor, talked to him for 15 minutes on the phone about the issues. (Can't beleive I actually got the Doc on the phone). I have an MRI tomorrow. I kind of know how Mike felt, my running may be done after 27 years of running. It will be a very tough divorce if it happens. Everyone needs a passion in life, it will be difficult transistion.

Thanks for your support. Cherish each day of running, enjoy the journey. I just got major negative commando points for my laspe of keeping a positive attitude.

Your venting isn't negative, its healthy. What a struggle! For what its worth, I'm rooting for you (and so are many other bloggies!) So don't talk like the end to running is here yet- one day at a time!

From Kim on Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 15:10:42

Brent,

No negative commando points to you...ever! You are our inspiration! When you are down and out we share our commando points with you! Please keep hope alive! Good luck on the MRI!

It's interesting that I have been thinking a lot about running because I can. It doesn't matter how fast or how far, it is just such a blessing to be able to do it! When Tom and I were running in CA. I noticed a man in a wheelchair watching us. I heard him say "exercise" to the man pushing him. I'm sure he was wishing he could be out doing the same. Thanks for giving us perspective on such a simple thing as placing one foot in front of the other! Our prayers are with you!

From Lybi on Wed, Apr 23, 2008 at 15:35:10

Hang in there, Brent! Paul Petersen thought he might be done with competitive running too. And he ended up winning Odgen and qualifying for and running well in the OLYMPIC TRIALS after less than a year. So you never know. Just keep on keeping on (just like at the end of a tough marathon!), and let tomorrow worry about itself. Hopefully the MRI will shed some light on what is going on in there.

From Benn on Thu, Apr 24, 2008 at 09:38:50

Keep staying positive, Brent. You are making sweet progress! I am going to go looking for commando attire tonight at the dollar store. I will keep you updated.

Beware the Silent Scorpions that sneak up and bite you as you get chicked going down a mountain like I did. Although the views weren't bad at all ;)

From Brent on Thu, Apr 24, 2008 at 23:58:06

Christi, Kim, Lybi, Benn: Thanks for the support, no running of for another month and back to the doctor. MRI, bone bruise, blood in the bone, minicus tear, etc. Dr. said it looked like a football injury. Anyway, one day at a time.
