Running Accomplishments:

Stay in the game, keep in the moment - have conquered a few of the holy grails of running - sub 3hr marathon, ran Boston and qualified for Boston at Boston, 10K PR under 6 min miles, won a couple of 5Ks in my early days of running, running for 30 years and ran 39 marathons.  The transistion to the back of the pack has not been easy, but, acceptance, stay in the game, root for others, enjoy the rest of the journey.  Another off the bucket list second =  Provo Half IM -  have done 6 open water Tris and 6 pool Tris.  Gave the STG IM a good Tri, hope to take another shot at the IM.

Short-Term Running Goals:

2013 Race Plan - STG Half IronMan, Lake Mead Rage Olympic distance, STG spring relay tri, STG half marathon, STG marathon, Cozumel IM, Utah Summer Games Triathlon at Gunlock, Murray 5k with family and Utah Half Distance Triathlon, 187 mile red rock relay,  STG marathon,

*note of clarification - cross training miles from biking and swimming calculated as follows: (as someone may wonder) 20 mile an hour bike = 5 cross training miles (those not familar with a 20 mph pace, good bike effort for long distance,  swimming, convert 1 hour swimming to 5 cross training miles.  For those that do not swim much, great cardio workout.

Long-Term Running Goals:

Enjoy the Swim, Bike Run thru Life - Hope to Run a Few Races Support Sylvie - Be a good coach   - Support Jenna, Jeremy, Taylor and Bonnie - my kids are now into running, who would of thunk it.  long term goals, recover from the ankle sprain, accept was it, have fun racing, mountain biking, faster swimming.

Personal:

BSRools, the B stands for Brent and the S for Sylvie.  The Rools come from my personal running rools over the years: Never complain once the run starts, allways pick up the pace into the wind and always pick up the pace on a hill. If someone whines, pick up the pace.  Once a goal is set, no whining, regardless of setbacks.  We were running when running was not Kool.   Kool comes from a race story, ran my first race, 5K wearing a "beanie that had "Kool Aid Kid"

Early morning run along the Legacy parkway with Colleen, the knee and endurance held up fairly well the first ten, avg pace 10 min miles.  Last last 5 felt like the end of the worst marathon.   I should not expect much, my running has been so limited, my mind says yes, the body, heh!  This run gives me a feel of what is to come at St.George.  My thoughts, never have done this before, usually, never stop during a marathon, run 1 mile  and walk a minute, Galloway method.  My next long run in two weeks, try this method, may also try this at Hobble Creek.  Colleen was great to run my pace for 10 miles, finally told her to go on, wait for me at the finish, she ran an extra mile and finished with me.

Dehydration:  weight before the run 158, weight after 154, that really says something about fluid needs during the run, we only stopped once for a drink.  Next run, will either carry or set up aid every three miles.

That's a lot of sweat. Keep up the good work.

do you think the low hydration is what caused you problems in the final 5 miles?

Biggest Loser Update...

Since i only have access to my official scale during weekdays, i'm reporting today's weight of 180 for the first milestone.

(down 5 from the starting mark... not bad, but i could be doing better i think)

From Brent on Fri, Aug 14, 2009 at 20:16:53 from 168.178.30.75

Burt - biggest loser weigh-in tomorrow - didn't feel like I was sweating much during the run.

Cal - nice job losing 5 pounds, right on goal pace. My run today, yes, not fueling properly contributed to the melt down. Also, wore shoes one too many times. Lastly, I am just out of running shape, longest run since STG last year. Cannot run much, so saving my knees for STG, I knew it would be tough. Read a few of your blog entries, two-a-days? Is your training progressing how you would expect? Shot at a PR at STG?

Great job Brent! You guys are doing awesome on the weight. I have to head to SLC early tomorrow, will post my weight though. Holding steady at 190, down 6. Actually, I feel this is even more important for STG now. Would really help the leg to get another 10-15 off for sure.

Great Brent, you are awesome! I did when some hardware last week for the 5K, gold metal, or a cheap imitation of one anyway;-) Thanks for checking in.

Keep working hard.
