22.0 miles outside with great weather conditions....25 F with calm winds out of the north and partly sunny skies. After thinking about the major problems I had on my last 20.50 mile run last week, I felt that it was hydration and muscle cramping in the last 5 or so miles, so I took care of the hydration problem by using a hydration belt, and I decided that I was not going to worry so much about time, but rather completing the long run....after all, this run is about building endurance, not speed, so I decided to take 1 minute walk breaks every 2-3 miles....I think this worked good for me. Details of the run:....22 miles in 3 hours 7 minutes. First half in 1 hr. 34 minutes....back half in 1 hr. 33 minutes. Average pace for run was 8.50 minutes, which includes about 8-10 minutes in walking all together.....so I'm quite pleased with this run. |
