New York City Marathon 2022 - not a bad day all things considered - this was my 12th NYC and although my fastest times are in my past when I head into races now - my mindset is still to try to do the best I can given my training/fitness at the time and the conditions on race day.  Well this years race was the warmest in its history from what I read.  Humid and sticky mid 60's dew point and temperature at the start and it would get to 74 degrees by the later miles in the race.  We were fortunate that there were mostly cloudy conditions at times.
My race plan was to run to feel and to keep my heart rate aerobic not to exceed 150.  Unfortunately that number was out the window by about 7 miles.  I allowed myself to edge up to the upper 150's knowing my anaerobic limit is about 162.  My pace was solidly in the upper 7's dipping under 7:30 a few times until late in the race when I went above 163 HR for too long around mile 21.  Then it was just a matter of time for the pace unravel a bit. I think I had a few miles in the mid 8's and generally it was a bit unpleasant from 22 to the finish.

Happy with 3:31 on the day.  Probably was good for maybe 5 mins faster if the weather was cooler and drier.  My son-in-law Marcus ran his first NYC today and finished well.  We had the whole family including his parents and my kids and granddaughter here.  Made for a really nice weekend.

AM - 2 miles "systems check" in NYC the day after.    Reasonably sore and some stingy areas of chafing.  Something wonky going on with the left hip.  Felt a bit better the more I warmed up.

AM - 3 miles on the trail with Dan and the dogs - got up early and saw the lunar eclipse.  Legs still fairly sore from the marathon - plan to take it easy for several days.

AM - 3.5 miles with Dan and the dogs on the Milton trail - much cooler this morning - long sleeves, than yesterday which was shirtless.    Something odd going on the with left hip - pretty decent amount of discomfort for the first part of the run; became less of problem after I got warmer - but did not completely go away even at the end.   Perhaps IT band, proximal?

AM - 5k run with Finn early before a brunch we are hosting at the house.  We went to a concert last night - Sheryl Crow, Lionel Richie and Billy Joel - it was fun.  Joel and Richie are both 73 years old and Crow is 60.   Yeah.  Feeling my age.
