AM - 4.5 miles easy this morning as storms were building all around.  Left foot outside/underneath fifth metatarsal is appearing to be some area of concern/discomfort. I noticed it on one of the hard downhills off the bridges on Saturday's long run.  May have tweaked it a bit.  

PM - a little over 8 miles after work around the Feathersound neighborhood and the Carillon office park.  Easy effort - little tight at the start - mostly smooth and relaxed after about 3 miles.

Have you iced it? I'd keep an eye on it (my left one) and take it easy/steady for a few days.

Good that you were zipping along yesterday, while the HR was steady. How are the old body and mind feeling? Is the mental strain of all the training begin to ease? I found that throwing in an extra day of recovery runs helped.

Not long until you can have a good and well deserved break (2 days:)).

I have not iced it - as it doesn't seem to have reached that level of significance. I sometimes like to note early signs of a possible injury on the blog to identify the duration of the period -- most times it turns out to be nothing at all. Just keeping an eye on it for now.

I read what you wrote on Derunzo's blog about the mental fatigue being insidious. Very insightful.

For me, with the move from base build-up to hills and anaerobic training, as one would expect, I began to notice some strain - more mental than physical. Now that I am knee-deep into it, I would have to say more than anything else, it is the mental fatigue that is the main challenge. IMO running 100 aerobic mpw is relatively easy, mentally-speaking by comparison to mixing in anaerobic work (which by the way, I could cope with much easier when I was much younger).

More should be written (maybe there is, and I just have overlooked it) on that aspect of training.

Removing the 4 x mile from my schedule this week was a relief itself.

Is it toward the back of the foot near the heal but not quite the heal itself? I was having a similar issue, but coach Bam told me to take it easy for a few days. Well, I ran a half and I angered it nicely, but I've been running easy and it is cooling off. I'm still going to the podiatrist to be safe. Do you feel it most during the toe-off phrase or is that not an issue? I iced mine even when it didn't really hurt, but I have no idea if that is good or bad advice.

Jason - not on the heal or back but near the front on the outside and underneath. I am taking it easy - no intense running for a few days. Will ice it tonight. Thanks. Yours sounds a bit like PF.

I see. I think mine is a cuboid issue. Didn't know if yours was similar. I'll stop trying to diagnose you then! I just hate to see people having trouble. Be well.
