4 mile: 28:10 (2005)

10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

1:52:05 ... I wanted so badly to go to Jeremy Ranch Road to run today -- we only have one more Sunday to run there! But, Dean is starting to get sick and he decided not to do a long run today. I did not really want to take the 3 - 4 hours it takes to drive there, drop water and run just for me ... so, I decided to run from home. I ran to Sugarhouse Park (via 1500E ~ 3.5 miles) then did 3 laps on the outside of the park on the grass (~1.9 miles or so each + a little more to make a bathroom stop and get water) and then home on 1300E (~3 miles, uphill). I estimated about 12.5 miles by the time it took me. I guess it was an ok run - especially with such an auspicious start ... I really really really did not want to run today. My head hurt, I was tired, and I figured "hey I am sick after all ...". So, I stretched, I puttered around, I took my temperature, stretched some more, thought about all the people that I needed to think about (some are having good times, some are having more troubled times), thought about all the work I have to do, thought about the laundry ... and tried to convince myself it was ok to miss my run. In the end, I simply could not justify missing my run and I got out and did it!!

It is good, because starting Wednesday I will be lucky to get 5 miles/day in ... Taipei is not an easy (or safe) place to run ... and our schedule is jam packed. Not to mention Thursday I can't run, because we don't get a Thursday -- we leave SLC at 1PM on Wednesday and arrive in Taipei at 10PM on Thursday (we make up for it on the way back when we leave Taipei at 10PM on Saturday and get back to SLC at 8PM on Saturday -- freaky isn't it????).

Happy Sunday bloggers, I hope you know I thought about just about every one of you today!

47:06.  Normally my day off I decided to run a little today since the next couple weeks running will be sketchy.  Felt pretty good - it was likely longer than 5 miles, but short of 5.5 -- I just wanted to run for 45 mins ...

Happy Monday!

AM: (1:13:07, 8+ miles).  Ran on the Bonneville Shoreline Trail up Dry Creek Canyon and back.  Nice morning ... feeling a little better (still having a hard time breathing and have headaches).  Very stressed about work stuff, and the trip!  Taiwan has been hit with 3 typhoons in the past few weeks with another on the way!!  But, more stressful than that is the fact that I still have to finish my talk!

No PM run bloggers -- I needed to finish my talk and it is already dark out.  I need to run some errands and get some laundry done so we can pack before tomorrow.  So -- the lower mileage days have begun.

Take care everyone -- HAVE A GREAT TIME SATURDAY.  The only "bad day" of running is a day with no running!!

no running -- we lost this day - we stepped on an airplane from LAX on Wednesday afternoon and landed 14 hours later and it was 10:00PM Thursday!  We did not get to our hotel until nearly 1AM Taiwan time (1PM on Thursday US time).

No running today - we had an early morning, and with no sleep and the long flight I just felt too run down.  There is a very old treadmill that is housed in the bar up on the top floor.  It does not look like it has been used (or calibrated) for many years ... I am planning on giving it a try tomorrow.

Running outside might not be an option, there is no sidewalk and it is treacherous for foot travel of any type - I know there is a bicycle path somewhere, I am just not sure I can find it in the dark (before the traffic starts) -- I think this exploration will have to wait until I don't have to be at the workshop so early.

So -- the workshop today was interesting.  Most, well all, with the exception of Dean and mine, of the talks are in Manderin - but the slides are in English.  Many of the more technical statistical terminology is also in English - so we can mainly follow along.for the big picture, just not the minor details.  The time changes hits really bad about 3-4 PM here -- it is really really hard to pay attention (or pretend to pay attention).  We are "invited presentors" which means a big deal here, everyone treats us like royalty.  The students line up every morning on either side of the hallway as we go into the conference room and bow and run to get us tea ... it is a little disconcerting at first ... but just started bowing back and saying good morning in Manderin and they smile like crazy.  They are very cute.  I hope they (and everyone else) think our talks are worth the hoopla!

45 mins on the treadmill ... it was pretty harsh.  The treadmill was old, there was no tv, no radio, no fan, and it faced a wall with a painting of a beach ... but, I was happy to have found the time (and energy to run!).  After the first day of speakers (all Taiwanese) today was mainly some friends (from mainland China) and Dean!  It was also my birthday.  I actually ran 46 mins (since I turned 46).  I was thinking about all the St. George and Portland runners (but you guys did not run until about 12 hours after my run).  You all did SOOOOO well!!  Congratulations.

Still pretty tired.  Haven't had time to do much of anything except go to the workshop and eat.  Tomorrow is my talk, and the end of the workshop.
