5K: 21:26 (2005)

4 mile: 28:10 (2005)

10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

AM: (9 miles, 1:14:25).   30:52wu + strides/29:06cd.  2 mile tempo (7:16, 7:10).  My tempo range is 7:04-7:23 and I wanted to stay closer to my 1/2 marathon pace (7:20); this wasn't hard, but I was working to stay on pace. It was very hot and though I was trying to stay on the slower end of the range, I wanted to get out of the sun so I found myself speeding up a little just to be done.  I was happy to see this workout on the schedule today, I feel like I am in good shape but I just don't feel like I have dialed in my 1/2 marathon pace yet - and with less than 12 days from the race it makes me nervous.  I am so dialed in to 10K pace these days that I really feel I need to spend a lot more time at 1/2 marathon pace so I can get into the groove early on in the race.  On Thursday I have my last workout that "counts" - and while I feel like I am actually in better shape than I was last year, I am not nearly in as good of 1/2 marathon shape as I was last year.  Thursday I am supposed to part of the workout at 1/2 goal pace - and I have no idea what to expect.  So, I will assume about the same as last year and hope like heck that at mile 9 I can drop it down a notch and use some of my new found 10K speed -- haha, such that it is ;-).

PM: (4 miles easy).

Such an exciting day yesterday!  Our fastrunningbloggers had a great day!  Paige Higgins (a McMillan Elite runner) was the first American finisher at Boston -- and was just signed by Saucony -- which means now she can train full-time and prepare for the Olympic trials!

I hope you are all having beautiful Spring days!!

I didn't see any highlights from the race :(

From Bonnie on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 13:38:36 from 64.119.33.134

You missed some good ones ... probably the most spectacular (in my opinion) was Robert Cheryoit "the younger" (there is an older who won Boston and New York) beat the course record by 1:30!! huge huge deal! Ryan Hall ran a very even race and came in 4th and Meb is just a marathon workhorse and came in 5th (he is an "older" guy by running standards and can go out and run 2:08-2:09 every single time ... amazingly consistent). The womans race was one by yet another little tiny Ethiopian woman - small but tough as nails, as she won despite having obviously intense cramps at 35K.

And, of course, there were our bloggers! Smooth was amazing, ran such a consistent race. And the lovebirds Kelli and Scott, practically making out for 26.2 miles ;-).

From KP on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 13:44:44 from 65.208.22.25

hahaha. i wondered if kelli and scott held hands the whole time, as they always had the same pace! they certainly ran it together, just like she wanted.

From Burt on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 13:45:41 from 206.19.214.144

I wondered about that Cheryoit guy. Are they related or is that as common as a name in Kenya as Smith?

I need to read Kelli's report.

From KP on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 13:47:10 from 65.208.22.25

you need to go look at the dudes bio online. i read it yesterday and he specifically says that they have no relation. come on, burt!

Really KristEn? Do I really need to do that? Let me answer that. No, I can just rely on Bonnie to tell, for she is the source of all truth and knowledge in the running world.

From Bonnie on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 14:25:12 from 64.119.33.134

Hey, hey, hey, "don't make me stop this blog and pull over or you two will be in BIG trouble"!!

But a big ha ha Burt ... truth yes, knowledge I don't know about that, though I appreciate your confidence!

From Burt on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 14:28:22 from 206.19.214.144

She started it.

From KP on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 14:43:21 from 65.208.22.25

I'm telling.

From seeaprilrun on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 14:49:35 from 205.172.12.229

The end of the women's race was definitely pretty exciting! What half-marathon are you going to do?

From Bonnie on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 15:23:12 from 128.196.228.134

Hi April, it certainly was exciting. I am running the American River Half-Marathon in Sacramento on May 1st. Should be nice since it will be a lot cooler there than it is here right now (who knew I would ever think Sacramento was cool, weather-wise, ;-) ).

From Carolyn in Colorado on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 17:36:02 from 24.8.167.243

Not to change the subject, but dang, you're fast.

From Bonnie on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 17:39:16 from 128.196.228.134

ha ha Carolyn, it is all relative. I am really not that fast, but I am thankfully faster than I was 7 years ago (I ran my first 5K in May 2003).

From Burt on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 18:02:17 from 206.19.214.144

Hey Bonnie. The new girl Taylor is going to the U of A. I don't think she's posted anything yet. I sent her a PM because it says she's in AZ.

From Bonnie on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 18:10:49 from 128.196.228.134

Very cool ... I will have to PM her too, thanks for the heads-up Burt!

From KP on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 18:17:00 from 198.200.158.140

Burt, you take stalking to a whole new level. I'm impressed.

From Bonnie on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 18:19:41 from 128.196.228.134

He only stalks the women (whew, that's a relief).

From Burt on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 18:23:24 from 206.19.214.144

As long as I don't end up on Dateline, I'm good.

From JD on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 18:27:31 from 70.96.78.157

No, he stalks the guys too.

From Bonnie on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 18:38:20 from 128.196.228.134

Darn, I was afraid of that!

From Burt on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 18:59:19 from 206.19.214.144

KP - there's a new girl, Terri Pruitt, on the blog. She's one of your girls you are coaching. You should check out her blog. (How's that for stalking?)

From KP on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 19:05:00 from 198.200.158.140

hilarious! i see that she is from AL. I doubt she is in my NOBO group; we're quite a drive from Town Creek. Why do you say she's in my group? Did you ask her? You've got some serious stalking skillz. serious.

From Burt on Tue, Apr 20, 2010 at 19:10:16 from 206.19.214.144

I made it up. If she really was, you would have FREAKED!!

From Kelli on Thu, Apr 22, 2010 at 23:42:24 from 71.219.75.178

IF ONLY you guys knew how hard I worked to make sure we hit the darn time pad at the exact same time (and two times we were still a second apart!!) It was tough, but I sure did make sure we ran that race together---making out and all!!

Burt the cyber-stalker.
