5K: 21:26 (2005)

4 mile: 28:10 (2005)

10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

AM: (12 miles, 1:34:05).  28:18wu/30:18cd, 5 mile tempo run (target: 6:55-7:13).

Splits: 7:10, 7:10, 7:05, 7:05, 6:57

I was VERY surprised with this run.  I was apprehensive of the new target times (based on my 1/2 marathon a couple of weeks ago), they just sounded so fast ... I had told myself that I should probably not be disappointed if I ran in the 7:15 or even the 7:20 range for most of the miles, and that if I could just finish at 7:12 pace it would be good (the last time I had done this particular workout was April 2010 and I had run 7:21, 7:18 7:16, 7:13, 7:08).  When I saw my first mile split I told myself to slow down, but somehow I didn't .. and then, inexplicably I somehow just kept speeding up?  wow.  Even the long 3 mile uphill felt good today.  I really do feel that John working on my hip and adductor has helped with my leg extension ... wow.  Now if I can just find MP and hold it ;-).

PM: easy 4.

I forgot to tell you about the pack of 7 coyotes I saw yesterday!!!  Seriously, a pack of 7 is quite an amazing sight ... I have to admit I was momentarily a little nervous, but then I wasn't ;-).

Happy Thursday bloggers!

Wow awesome splits Bonnie! Also I just noticed your recent 1/2 marathon race report. Huge congratulations!!! I knew after all these months and months of stellar training and mileage with no races you were due for a big present when you finally raced. Super!

From Jake K on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 16:10:32 from 155.100.226.53

Nice tempo run. Its funny how we play those mental games - "Well, I want to run X but if I run Y, thats OK too"... and then you go out and run faster than even planned, and it feels good! Shows the value of the consistent training you have been putting it!

From Bonnie on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 16:21:49 from 150.135.114.85

Hi Tom!! Nice to hear from you! I tell you, this getting old is not for sissies, but it is so nice to be healthy - you know, I had a really hard time getting motivated today too, it must be the holiday season!

Jake - I know, it is so funny that we can fake ourselves out ;-) ... it reminds me, I used to have a horrible addiction to those canned shoestring potatoes (actually, if I allowed them in the house I would probably still be addicted to them) ... I would sit down and eat half of a can and then shake the can up so it would look like I did not eat as much, and then "hide" them in the back of the pantry. Needless to say, I never actually "forgot" where I had "hid" them, and would find myself back at them within an hour of hiding them ;-).

From Andrea on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 16:31:32 from 72.37.244.100

I bet you could beat your 5k PR easily right now.

From Andrea on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 16:34:50 from 72.37.171.52

And concerning the shoestring potatoes...I was the exact same way with Kashi Cocoa Beach granola! It's not allowed in the house either :o)

From Bonnie on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 16:47:47 from 150.135.114.85

Andrea, I NEVER say 5K and easily in the same sentence ;-)

From Lily on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 17:22:16 from 67.199.178.210

LOVE IT! You inspire me even still. I think you should run a 5k. I am thinking you'd PR?

From Lily on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 17:22:37 from 67.199.178.210

ahhhh see, what Andrea said...

From Andrea on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 17:23:41 from 72.37.171.52

That's two votes, Bonnie! And I speak for Jake, so make that 3 votes :o)

From Bonnie on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 17:28:40 from 150.135.114.85

ha ha ... maybe I should make it through this marathon in one piece first ;-) ... I am feeling like I am being held together by Biofreeze and compression socks ... Great minds Lily, great minds!

From JD on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 18:38:43 from 70.96.78.149

nice job Bonnie. not too surprising given your steady, consistent, and determined training this year. marathon is looking good.

From MichelleL on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 18:42:42 from 42.98.230.164

Nice job Bonnie. I love the negative splitting. Maybe you have found your marathon pace :D

From Bonnie on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 18:49:04 from 150.135.114.85

ha ha ha ... sure Michelle - wouldn't that be nice. It was so nice to think of you today, in retrospect the tempo run that you helped me with wasn't horrible, it was just my expectations that were out of whack, but it would have been so awesome to have you out with me today. xo

From Bonnie on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 18:49:31 from 150.135.114.85

how long of a sentence can I write??

From Kelli on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 19:53:39 from 71.219.80.158

UM, I will chime in with the 4th vote. 5ks are tough, but you are so ready to break that PR and I do not think it would be all that hard to do it!

AMAZING RUN!!! I am so impressed with those paces, McMillan is a smart guy. Wish he would train me! Guess I will have to come to you for training advice when and if I ever decide to be serious again! You are one heck of a smart runner!

I like that you only have one addiction, I have so many (candy corn, orange slices, cinnamon bears, pretzel m&m's, ice cream, pringles....) I hide them from my kids, I do not like to share.

From Bonnie on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 21:52:40 from 150.135.114.85

ha Kelli, I have many addictions, but I don't dare write them all down ;)

5K's are always hard, I am a chicken ... but, I will think about it (after Houston), maybe you can pace me?

From allie on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 22:52:51 from 24.10.191.18

awesome bonnie! my vote is that you run your next 5k during houston. you are ready for a PR at every distance!

my addictions: pistachios, refrigerated water, hummus, focaccia bread, commas.

From allie on Thu, Dec 15, 2011 at 22:53:32 from 24.10.191.18

oh, and gold.

From Kelli on Fri, Dec 16, 2011 at 00:02:53 from 71.219.80.158

Seriously, Allie---you should me a comedian. You crack me up.

I hate water, don't ever drink the stuff. It is bad for you. I try to keep it out of my house so I will not be tempted!

From Kelli on Fri, Dec 16, 2011 at 00:04:00 from 71.219.80.158

OH, and BONNIE, you train me and I will gladly pace you (but it might be the first time my pacee beats me!!!)

From Bonnie on Fri, Dec 16, 2011 at 11:58:07 from 150.135.114.85

ha ha ha, allie, you are a gem, errr, a brilliant gold bar ...

I am addicted to lots of ice in my water -- winter or not ... so I am with you on the refrigerated water allie. Kelli, I have other friend who feels the same way about water - she says that she doesn't like it because fish pee in it.

From Kelli on Fri, Dec 16, 2011 at 20:27:41 from 71.219.80.158

I drink LOTS of water, as long as it has Crystal Light or MIO added to it. ;o)
