10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

AM: (10 hilly miles, 1:26:53).  Ouch.  25:49wu/28:33cd ~4 mile SS ( ran hard for 32:28).  It was very hot (89F at the start, and wunderground says the wind was 20 mph (felt worse than that sometimes).  I wanted to run for about 5 miles (estimated 37 mins or so), but because of the conditions I opted for fewer fast miles and decided to just run for 30 mins hard.  Felt a little whoozy and sick near the end.  I was running by feel but the heat, the hills and the wind just conspired against me ;-).  All is good though, it was a solid effort and I am glad I did it, I groaned when the alarm went off at 5AM and they said it was already 82F out.

PM: 4 miles easy.

Almost done with my grant -- well, I got a first draft finished, now I have to edit and rework. It looks much better than my initial submission last year.  Fingers crossed.

Have a great day bloggers!

since it is dusty/sandy there (or i imagine it is), do you have sand blowing in your face with wind like that?

Hi KP -- hmmm. Well, it is not Lawrence of Arabia sandy here, but we do have bad dust storms sometimes (and dust devils -- little tornados of dust). The run I ran today is not too bad in terms of dust, some sections are "sandy" but mainly in the washes, and they are somewhat protected from the wind. It might explain why I was coughing pretty bad again today though. It was just so hot and dry ... I was "parched" when I got home!! Hope things cool down for you guys, my friends in Nashville say it has been one of the worst Junes in a long time.

Fingers crossed indeed!

Nice runs!! I am so impressed, once again, with the summer running in that heat!

You are the master of the hills and the heat and the wind.
