marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

58:10 ...

bagged a workout today -- things are not going well.  I think a couple down weeks running how I feel might be in order.  This is just one more in a series of workouts that are not going as they should. Pretty depressing.  I am hoping things get back to normal after Spain.

Good call, Bonnie! Have you done any tests yet? Relatively simple blood test can tell a lot. When are you leaving for Spain? I would advise not to run there, or at least not to go out of your way to fit your runs in. A good break will not hurt you. Hope you start feeling better soon!

Hi Maria,

I feel horrible about it right now, but even though I was hitting my splits it was not "cruise interval" effort - but felt more like a speed workout (albeit slow).

Anyway, it is not my iron levels or thyroid ... the only thing that was not normal was my sodium level was low and potassium was borderline (as were a couple of other kidney function things). Somehow I think I have a slight electrolyte imbalance. Or a "head injury" -- but I am pretty depressed about it. My thoughts on Spain are just to run when I feel like it ... and not when I don't. I don't want to lose too much fitness, but some of my runs lately are not helping my overall fitness anyway since they are such a struggle.

Hope all continues well in your recovery. I am wearing my support socks for the flight, I have found it really helps my ankles and feet from swelling up on the 8 hour flights! And after your experience I am even more convinced it is a good idea in general.

Don't get depressed it will only make you feel more worn down and tired. Just accept the fact that your body needs a break from the fast stuff and work on base miles right now. Keep you head above water:)

Thanks Josse, I am trying. In the meantime I will live vicariously through you!!

So I guess I’m an activist at heart. I noticed we’ve only had 13 votes but 144 views and there are more of you out there. I know some people don’t use the discussion board of the blog so I’m posting this comment on everyone’s blog that has updated in the last few days or so to bring your attention to both the discussion section and the mileage board. Please read the discussion here (http://fastrunningblog.com/forum/index.php/topic,324.0.html) and then vote here (http://fastrunningblog.com/forum/index.php/topic,348.0.html) if you have an opinion. If you already voted, I am sorry about the “spam.” Thank you!
