10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

1:04:31.  Up the Yeatman trail.  Wonderfully uneventful (no bugs, no grabbing cacti, no snakes, no scorpions).  Just me and the oppressively hot hot sun.  Flagstaff - Flagstaff - Flagstaff - just three more weeks!

Have a wonderful day bloggers, stay safe, have fun, run free!!

you might be interested in this article, recently posted on irunfar.com, interviewing three of the four favorites for the western states 100 in a few weeks

http://www.irunfar.com/2010/06/koerner-krupicka-roes-interviewed-as-ws-training-concludes.html

i'm having a hard time picking the winner. being the two time defending champ, hal is hard to bet against, but anton and roes are in phenomenal shape, and kilian is almost "unbeatable" in europe.

(if you had asked me a month ago who would win, i would have said, hands down, that roes had it, but anton has been doing some mighty impressive training recently, so my vote is slowly sliding from roes to krupicka... somewhere in the middle right now...)

Nevels, do you know (of) Amy Dodson? She lives here in Arizona (right outside of Tucson) ... she will be running WS this year (she is an amputee, doubt she will win but she might be the first amputee to run WS?) -- anyway, she is a pretty amazing person.

I think Krupicka has my vote too (although I think he is slightly degranged -- not necessarily that it is a "bad" thing). Cool thing about WS this year? Full moon!!! if it stays clear it should make for a little easier (and pretty) running!!

I've heard of Amy Dodson (word of amputee runners travels fast in ultra circles...), and I hope she does well; runners like her are definitely inspirations to the rest of us.

Anton is definitely a little... shall we say... odd, off, eccentric, or otherwise strange, but as you said, I can, to some degree, appreciate his simplicity and pursuit of the idyllic lifestyle.

Cool about the full moon; I didn't know that. It should certainly make things nicer for those running all night, both aesthetically and practically.

Hey Nevels,

Anton references WS being cancelled in 2008. Why?

From Bonnie on Wed, Jun 09, 2010 at 14:09:10 from 128.196.228.134

KP, if memory serves me Western States was cancelled that year because of forest fires.

From KP on Wed, Jun 09, 2010 at 14:24:20 from 65.208.22.26

ahhhhhh... thank you, bonnie!

btw - in my stats II class last night, we were learning about 'chi-squared tests for independence of 2 variables' which i actually enjoyed! it could be because it is by far the easiest thing i've done in stats thus far. i was excited that i was actually grasping the concept though!

From Bonnie on Wed, Jun 09, 2010 at 14:29:13 from 128.196.228.134

Excellent!! this is the "useful" stuff.

From Nevels on Wed, Jun 09, 2010 at 14:32:01 from 131.204.15.93

Yeah, Western got canceled in 08 because of fires, and it was really disappointing, because it was shaping up to be a good race, and it was the last time Anton had entered a race where he wasn't (at least in my mind) a heavy favorite.

This year's Western States should remedy that... and it will be a heck of a race; I wish I could jump from aid station to aid station and actually watch, rather than just see aid station splits on the computer...

From KP on Wed, Jun 09, 2010 at 14:39:56 from 65.208.22.26

that is so sad simply because people trained for it and had planned trips. since it is a lottery, it isn't like they were guaranteed a spot in the 09 race. gosh. i can't imagine how disappointing.

hop a flight from one auburn to another... it would be awesome to see!

From Nevels on Wed, Jun 09, 2010 at 14:43:11 from 131.204.15.93

Speaking purely from vague memory, I think that the Grand Slammers got entry into the Arkansas Traveller to finish out the Slam, and I'm wanting to say that entrants in '08 got some kind of preferred treatment in '09 (although not a guaranteed entry, maybe an extra lottery ballot...?) But I, too, would be pretty flustered about it.

Congratulations on an uneventful run, Bonnie.
