10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

Bonnie, why don't you try water running instead of the FE? I can't stand to even look at a FE. do they have a portion of a pool at U of A roped off for that? I found it was perfect for my calf injury and even helped with the swelling (the cold water and pressure I guess). I wear a shortie wetsuit to stave off the cold and that works perfect, otherwise I get too cold. I am still doing WR once a week to take the load off my shin and calf.

I have thought about it Scott, but I don't have any "pool" stuff (like a bathing suit) and have not yet committed in my brain to being "injured for a long time" ... if it continues for much longer I will definitely try it. They do have a pool here in the student rec center, but I would have to join (right now I am using the cheaper University Hospital gym) -- quite frankly even though it is huge the student rec center is always SO busy (we had record enrollment this year of 50K - still less than ASU with 70K!!!) and I am intimidated by the co-eds ;-).

Thank you for the input and I will be sure to let you know how it goes if I try it (and I will think of you when I do it, you should hope I like it ;-) )

So is that an hour and 5 mins or 1 min 5 seconds? I'm thinking probably 1 hr 5 mins that felt like 1 day and 5 hours!

Nice job with the FE, maybe you 2 will bond after all is said in done. But hope it's a short-term relationship.

so U of A makes you pay for access to the PE facilities. It figures, another way to get money for the football program...

for the record I hate water running, it is just the only halfway decent alternative I have found. I just hate it less than the elliptical. the FE torques and aggravates my knees for some reason so I try to avoid it. And I hate stationary bikes because they hurt my rear. so not much left to do...

ha ha ha. Well, my massage therapist teaches spin class on Tuesday and Thursdays at a local gym, she has promised me a really good workout (and will get me in for free)! I do have biking togs (including really cool mountain bike shoes that will clip into the spin bike -- and the requisite padded biking shorts) - so I think I will try it out next week (if I am not running again by then, I am trying to be a "glass-half-full gal" today ;-)

And yes, Scott, don't get me started on U of A athletics, we have basketball too. There are a bunch of billboards all over town (pricey ones too) that welcomed the new coach to town -- never mentioned the womens softball and swimming teams which were really awesome last year! not to mention that all faculty are being furloughed this year (basically a pay cut). Dean gets mad every time we drive by one --

Bonnie, I second it on the water running. Between water running and biking, I actually survived the knee injury of last winter. The water thing gets interesting; you can wear an Ipod on your head under your cap, and you can do intervals and stuff. Buy a bathing suit! They are on sale right now.
