Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

2:01:23.  1:02:26/58:57 (8:54/8:25 AP).  Was an uncomfortable run.  I got a late start, because wunderground said it was going to be cooler today than yesterday ... in a way it was, the temps were lower but because of the storms it was humid (58%) and there were no clouds so the sun was hot hot hot.  RealFeel said 99 when I finished, I don't think I believe it, it was only 89F.  It was mainly the sun.  But anyway, I felt pretty good after the first 5 miles.  The first 5 miles were tough, my legs felt like lead (they felt pretty bad last night too) ... I might need to take more vitamins, I am feeling "not quite right", even though my pace is ok - I just don't feel very good lately.  B12 or iron most likely culprits (both things I struggle with, even though I try to eat a lot of spinach for iron, I have had problems with getting enough of both in my diet).

Anyway -- it was still a good day!  And I forgot to mention yesterday how exciting it was that Tyson Gay beat Bolt!! YEA!!  The mens 800 was messed up Khadivis Robinson did a horrible job pacing and he did not get out of the way fast enough and cost both Kaki and Wheating the race -- although the Polish guy who won was certainly on a tear, with Kaki's latest races as a gauge it would have been an awesome race if he wouldn't have been impeded by Robinson (I doubt he will be asked back to rabbit).

Have a wonderful Sunday bloggers!

You are so brave to run in that Arizona heat! I lived in Tucson with my older sis one summer and I melted like a popsicle everyday. You ran 14 in that heat, ahhh! :) I really do look up to you. You inspire me.

oh Lily, you are so sweet. It is not pleasant, but I think that the summers I ran in Nashville were worse (in part because I did not get up early enough on the weekends) -- the worst part about here is that it just is every day -- not just for a week or so, but for 4 freaking months! But, once you get used to it, it is not too bad. I got water at 4 fountains and took and electrolyte filled gu at the turn-around so it broke it up a little. I was very happy to be finished! how are you feeling today after your amazing race yesterday? take it easy for a few days, you will race better on Saturday if you take a couple very easy days. Good luck!!

great run in the heat. you are always consistent and strong, even with the AZ sun beating down on you.

b12 and iron are most definitely the culprits on a vegetarian diet. i go through 2-3 bags of spinach per week. lots of kale, too. as for b12, i rely on emergen-c, although i am not sure how much of that is actually absorbed.

gay beats bolt! what a race.

From Bonnie on Sun, Aug 08, 2010 at 15:53:48 from 64.119.33.134

Yes, I often take H2 inhibitors for my stomach and they interfere with B12 absorption so Emergan-C isnt quite enough, and there just aren't many veggies that have large amounts of it. So, I supplement with some multivitamins (when I remember!).

The 100 meter race was really the highlight, but the 800 was pretty interesting (in terms of watching things go wrong ;-), I must have watched the last 500 meters of that race 50 times to see "everything" happen). I hope you have a great Sunday allie!

That WAS exciting to see Bolt get beat! Wow! Great hot run, Bonnie. I hope your energy comes back soon. I have had to really focus on iron intake this summer; its hard to get it back up when it goes far down. I am still using the liquid plant based supplement and taking blackstrap molasses every day. And steak now and then.

i envy your humidity.

You ran well in spite of the heat and not feeling quite right. I hope you get feeling quite right soon.

I no longer trust Wunderground since I learned that it is a compilation of weather data from sources that might not be completely accurate (eg home weather stations). I still look at it for additional info, but it's hard to find a really good source. I love meteorology! One of my missed callings!
