5K: 21:26 (2005)

4 mile: 28:10 (2005)

10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

AM:(10 miles, 1:27:38).  30:42 wu (+ strides)/27:28cd.  4 mile Steady State run, splits: 7:29, 7:22, 7:20, 7:14.  I wasn't sure what to expect today, it was 79F at 5AM when the alarm went off and about 83F and sunny when I started, about 89F when I finished.   I haven't done anything this fast (except 200m pushes) for 5 weeks and I haven't been running in this kind of heat for a while either; not to mention I have been traveling, which always costs a little in "feeling fresh".  Greg had said I would "feel like a million bucks" by today (after being at 7000ft for a month) - well, I don't know about that, but I was happy that despite everything I was able to run pretty fast off of just easy base running.  Yea.  And, I am in better shape than this time last year, so I am starting to look forward to some training again (but not for a month or so).

PM: (easy 4, my first 105F day in a long time).

I hope you are doing well, I will be posting on your blogs sometime soon, I have a pretty full day today but I hope to find a few mins to say hi.  I have been keeping track of you all, just haven't had time to write.  Happy Thursday, run happy!

How did you complet your PM miles already? You're amazing!

From KP on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 12:28:52 from 65.208.22.26

are you fully recovered after your fall?

From Bonnie on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 12:42:15 from 64.119.33.134

Hi KP, my ribs don't hurt much anymore while I am running, but they are sore as all get-out afterward, and I still can't lay on my right side or hold things in my right arm or shoulder. But, in general, I am healed "enough" to do the important things ;-). It sucks though, I haven't been able to do any core work for 2 weeks now and I feel like I am losing a lot of core strength! drat.

From Kelli on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 14:47:14 from 71.219.102.155

105???? That has got to be rough. Do you have to drink like every tenth of a mile?

You are one tough runner and you for sure have one heck of a base, traveling did nothing to you but maybe make you not feel so great---you still performed great!

Have a great rest of the week, the weekend is almost here!

(OH, Rachel and I had a nice chat about you at lunch yesterday. She thinks the world of you, says you are this tiny little thing and so so so nice. Guess I need to come to AZ and say HI.)

From seeaprilrun on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 15:53:50 from 68.103.243.161

105? Geez. I am sooo glad I do not live in Arizona!

From Bonnie on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 17:48:30 from 128.196.228.134

As long as the sun is not out 105F here is not so bad (since there is low humidity). What kills is that even when it is in the 80s the sun is really really strong (and there are no trees).

I love Rachel, she is an awesome person! And, yes, you do need to come by and say hi sometime!

From Burt on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 18:02:57 from 206.19.214.144

KP and Kelli - you didn't get on me for my spelling mistake. Either you're slacking or you're becoming more mature.

From Bonnie on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 18:09:16 from 128.196.228.134

ha ha ha, complet ... I pre-blog my PM runs all the time, since I generally don't finish them until 8PM or later, and I don't have time to blog at night. So there ;-). Hope all is well Burt!

From Burt on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 18:25:04 from 206.19.214.144

Now that you say that, I remember that you do. All is well. All is well.

From Kelli on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 18:27:47 from 71.219.102.155

105 not so bad? That sounds like crazy talk.

From Kelli on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 18:28:26 from 71.219.102.155

OH, Burt, just too tired to even notice.

From allie on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 20:24:52 from 174.23.226.74

nice splits for your steady state run. you are in great shape!

burt - there is always the "edit" button.

From Burt on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 20:34:48 from 206.19.214.144

I can only use the "edit" button with Firefox. I don't have Firefox at work. I don't have administrative privileges to download Firefox at work. Plus, that would require filling everyone's inbox with another email. You know how much I hate that.

From allie on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 20:52:17 from 174.23.226.74

oh, so every time you edit a post it sends a new email?

i guess i should do better at deciding where! i want my exclamation points! before i finalize my! post.

From Smooth on Thu, Aug 05, 2010 at 22:10:31 from 174.23.203.161

NICE tempo pace! You are in such great shape!

My son just moved to Glendale AZ for D.O. school. Sounds like a neat place...but oh SOOOOO HOT!!!! I admire you running in those inferno condition!

From Carolyn in Colorado on Fri, Aug 06, 2010 at 10:19:50 from 24.8.167.243

Well, you're in better shape than this time last year and you were not in bad shape last year, so I predict an awesome racing season this Fall.
