marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

AM: (7.5 miles, 1:03:49).  12 x 1` w/1` recovery.  I was in a very big hurry this morning, I was on the schedule to give lab meeting, it was pouring (and 40F) ... and I just got a late start.  I would have liked to run 9 or 10, but in the end it was good.

This afternoon Dean and I went up to Phoenix to see John (it rained the whole way, yucky rain too).  It hurt like the dickens, but I think it is going to help a lot!  No fast people sightings, but we did plan our Houston meet-up - John is going out to help Ryan Hall (and all the McMillan folks probably) -- it is going to be so exciting to watch the trials, I can hardly wait (except I am scared witless about my own preparedness for the marathon) ...

PM: Easy 4.  By the time we got home it was way too dark to run outside (and still pouring, though I would have preferred that to the gym), so I went to the Y to run on the dreaded-dreadmill ... man, how can 4 miles feel like soooooo long?

I hope you are all doing ok, I am sure the snow is falling in Utah (or will be soon) - all you skiers are going to have a blast!!  Stay safe, have fun!!

Pouring and 40 degrees!? How often do you get to type that? I talked to my parents (who live in PHX) last night, and they said their dog was NOT HAPPY about having to walk in the rain the past 2 days!

Flagstaff is getting about 10 times more snow that Utah right now. I'm sure this trend won't last long, but everytime I look at all my ski gear hanging on the wall, it frustrates me! :-)

Hi Jake, bummer about the lack of snow ... I think that Flagstaff has received the most snowfall in the country for a couple of years now ... not great for the folks getting ready for the trials, but great for the skiers!

Tucson is generally colder than Phoenix because we are a little higher in elevation (2000-3000ft) - it is almost always this cold for a couple of months, but not always this wet (I like it like this because the mountains get dusted with snow - we have a 8000ft peak that we can see from our house). But, my theory has been if it is going be cold, there might as well be snow on the ground ;-). Cold rain is yucky.

I agree - cold rain is the worst weather! I'll take snow anyday over that! :-)
