Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

AM: ~58 mins, ran very slowly -- after yesterdays workout and todays double I wanted to make sure my morning run is a recovery run ... felt really good!! I am excited, I feel that for the first time in almost 2 months I am getting back to form.

PM: 31:04, tough run on BST ... nice evening though.

My foot is upset ... I don't know what is going on but the arch on my opposite foot from my PF/achilles problem is very sore and swollen.  This is the second evening that it has basically swollen up enough that I can tell when I walk around, and it hurt on both runs today (not enough to make me stop running, but more than PF usually does - and that is quite a bit).  HMMMMMM ...

Anyway - no time to worry about it right now, I have to get ready for another trip tomorrow!  My talk is still not finished!

Oh no, Bonnie, not an injury - just when you're starting to add doubles! Maybe you strained the arch on the sand trails? Did you change shoes recently? In any case, if it is swollen and you can feel it while walking around, I would stop running for a few days and hit ibuprofen hard - 4x800mg a day to get the inflammation down. Can you bike or run in the pool? Man, this is really unfortunate, but if you attack it early, it shouldn't set you back. You're not going to lose fitness in 1 week. I hope it heals soon!! Good luck with your speech on Monday (I'm sure you'll do great). Are you okay with public speaking? I don't like it and get insanely nervous beforehand, but once I start, I feel better, usually.

Hi Maria,

Oh, I don't think it is a "stop running" injury. I iced it last night and the swelling went down, and I can't feel it when I walk around in the morning. I think it is biomechanical and due to the PF/ankle issues I have on my right foot. I really need to do my Egoscue menu more so I can *fix* my left leg issues ... shoes suck. I love the Nike "Pre" shoes, but my right foot pronates really badly in them and when I do I get bruises where my heel hits the outside sole of the shoe. My mizuno's are my regular shoes - but they might be the cause of my PF (though I don't pronate in them). My Asics are great some days, but they hurt the arch of my foot if I wear them everyday. I have a pair of brooks racing flats that I can wear sometimes, but they have "issues" too, and I can't wear them for anything longer than a 10K. I just can't find a shoe I can wear everyday that does not have issues -- and believe me, I have tried so many shoes. So -- I believe I have to fix the problem and not depend on shoes to fix it for me. That said, I have no idea what is going on with my arch. The day it started was an "off" day, so maybe it doesn't have anything to do with running? I just know it hurt yesterday on my run and was swollen last night.

I can't take NSAIDS because I have colitis -- though I sneak them sometimes -- they took my pain treatment off the market (Vioxx), I had some Celebrex around but mostly I try not to hurt ;-).

I give lots of talks (and teach) so public speaking is not too hard for me. Although I am always nervous just before hand, especially talks like this one - in front of colleagues, when I have not prepared as well as I would have liked!!

I am very very glad to see how you are coming along Maria - you will have to come out and run PF Changs!!
