10K: 43:33 (2010)

10 mile: 1:13:35 (2009) (1:12:15 split in 1/2 marathon, 2011)

1/2 marathon: 1:34:31 (2011)

marathon: 3:19:15 (2013)

Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

AM: (1:00:03, 7 miles, hilly) -- actually a little longer than 7 miles (2:06 to bathroom!). 5 x 1.4 mile laps in Sugarhouse Park. I am actually quite suprised with this run. I really tried hard to take it easy, and by the last two laps the uphills were hard ... but the reason was because I was running them too fast ... 11:59 (8:33), 11:42 (8:21), 11:31 (8:13), 11:35 (8:16), 11:10 (7:58). I think it was the day off ... or Jeremy Ranch Road paying off for hills! I will see this afternoon if it was really too fast, I need to have 4-5 more miles left in my legs for the day.

PM: (38:37, 4.5 miles) -- 3 laps on the grass at Liberty Park.  This was the best 2nd run I have had so far ... the fact that it is cooler than it has been helps a lot, as does the fact it is nice and flat at Liberty Park!

I am tired, but I felt ok on the runs ... I need to really make an effort to run really slowly tomorrow ... not that it will be hard to run easy after today!

Happy Tuesday bloggers

Bonnie, I think you may be reaching the next level - you've commented several times in a row how surprised you are on your runs :). I still can't wait to see you race. I'm sure you will be very competitive in your age group. Why don't you pick a 5 or 10K some time soon? Sasha advertises Minuteman 5K, can you get to it? I think you may surprise yourself!

Hi Maria,

I certainly hope you are right. I am actually going to run a 10K on July 24th. It is a downhill course though so I am not sure, between the altitude and downhill, how it is going to translate to flat, sea-level courses. And, I am a little nervous about running these downhill races - they are really downhill (200 - 250 ft elevation loss in a couple of miles) - I am not sure sure how fast I will take the more steep inclines.

It is amazing really, after going through the month(s) of feeling horrible and thinking my running days were numbered, I am doing pretty well right now. I don't feel 'great' during these runs, but I am going much faster and my legs feel a lot better than they ever have ... odd. I have been taking this sugar-free electrolyte mix with Mg pretty regularly ... so maybe that was it (my Na and K were the only things "off" on my blood test and they were both pretty low).

I think the real test will be this Fall and next Winter, after we move to Tucson. I will either be running the PF Chang's 1/2 or marathon (there I wrote it, now I will have to follow through, it would be my first marathon).

How are you doing after your long run this weekend?

Good luck on the 24th. You are a fast runner, and at the bottom of your age division--I would be running every race this year if I were you! P.S. I had a running partner with hyponatremia...who didnt' know it for years. Running with electrolite "blocks" and gatorade changed her life. P.S. good job getting back to running post sugery. I had a little surgery in December, and it took me months to get back to normal.

Thanks Luzylew! I do plan on using the young end of the age group as much as I can ;-). Maybe I will see you up in Provo one of these days -- I like going up there, it is just hard to find the time to drive up there (and the run has to be long enough to make it worthwhile to get up early enough to meet all you guys!).

Bonnie, I say it...a commitment to your first marathon at PF Chang Rock N Roll in Jan. 09! A great race...you can make it happen.
