Short-Term Running Goals:

3:20 marathon - Eugene Marathon, April 28, 2013 (can I say I really want a sub 3:20? but I will be happy with 3:20-3:23) -- whoohoo!

Some good intermediate races 15K - 1/2 marathon, to gauge my fitness level (done this, hit a 1:34:35 1/2 marathon in March 2013, on a hilly course)

Going after my 10 mile PR in Fall 2013

Maybe some good 10K races after the infernal Arizona summer is over!

Long-Term Running Goals:

I want to be one of those runners who is still running in their 80s (or 90s?).  You know the ones, who look all grisley and fit?  That is what I would like!  Until then, I just want to work hard and be as fast as I can, for as long as I can.

1:03:24.  Beautiful run up the Yeatman trail... I have missed it!  Three things I have to remember to share, first of all -- I promise pictures soon, but there were parts of the run on the trail today that were so awe inspiring!!  Wall-to-wall carpeting of the buttercup yellow flowers ... in some parts it looked like a blanket ... just beautiful.  Second, I saw about 20 deer on my run yesterday, they were way too close to one of the high traffic arteries through the mountains, I guess they were feasting on the wildflowers.  Thirdly, I have such a hard time sleeping that for a long time I was taking Ambien.  Well, I got off them about 5 months ago and the melatonin is finally starting to work.  However, I have the strangest dreams.  Yesterday *just* before the alarm went off I was "digging" into a huge (I mean like 3 soup bowls worth, in a small trough shape) bowl of ice cream (chocolate chip) -- I was eating with a large "spatula spoon".  What makes this so remarkable is that it has probably been about a year since I have even eaten a little tiny spoon of ice cream (I don't eat sweets much at all).  Weird.  It kind of disturbed me all day ;-).

Have a great day bloggers!

Yes, please post pictures. Your sights sound wonderful.

That is a really strange ice cream dream. I eat too many sweets. I really need to figure out how to stop.

Now that's what I'd call a SWEET dream! And no guilty calories to boot!

Can't wait to see the pics. Your Yeatman trail run sounds BEAUTIFUL!!!

Oooh you are fun Bonnie. I was thinking..wow what a sweet dreamy sounding run she had..with all the flowers and deer, then Suddenly you are telling me about your Riot of a Dream (haha that spatula)...All my dreams lately have been Triathlon. Crazy ones...

I am wondering how hot is it this time of year for you? Are you getting out there earlier in the morning to avoid heat?

I lived in Gilbert for 3 years, and I did get used to it..sometimes tho, getting up at 3 or 4am to get a 20miler in..got tiresome..haha. Made for a trance like run...felt dream like..running halfway asleep and it feeling like a preheating oven. :)

Oh, and I almost forgot the 5k's races I did early a.m. I can't even remember the temp for those. Was REALLY sweaty tho.

Funny dream! That would disturb me too. Do you think the dreams are from the melatonin? I take Melatonin, but can only use it for 5-6 days, then have to take a break because it stops working for me. I'll be interested to see how you do with it.

Carolyn - we don't keep snack food in the house, that helps us not eat it ;-).

Smooth - Sweet dream indeed! Great run today! Yippee, Boston here you come!

Missy - tri dreams sound like like way too much work ;). It is not really that hot here yet - I can still run fairly late in the day and be comfortable (about 87F last Sunday on my long run). By June I will be suffering -- I really don't do well in the heat. I am hoping we can escape the worse of the summer by heading up to Flagstaff for July. For me, the worst part is that it is just relentless heat, every single day, you know you are in trouble when you get up at 4PM and it is the "low" and it is 80F!! I agree with the preheating oven, Dean calls it a "convention oven" -- I think I am going to buy an outdoor evaporative cooler so I can do drills on my patio ;).

Auntie - Hi! I do think the dreams are from melatonin - either that or when I sleep on Ambien I just don't remember my dreams. There is nothing harder, for me, than trying to function at work after not sleeping for a few days - I would get fired in no time ;). I actually am taking 3mg Melatonin + L-Theanine (a compound found in green tea that is supposed to help with stress relief) ... so far, I definitely am doing better than I do without anything.

Whoops, that would be 4AM not 4PM!! brain dead Bonnie ...
