1800 meters in the pool today, followed by 3 painful miles of running. Knee is still the same as day one, and unfortunately there is no end in sight.

I hear your frustration. ITBs are the worst. All I can say is be patient and try to resist running to the point that there is a sharp pain. I injured my right knee in early June 2010 and couldn't consistently run again until that November. And since it still wasn't healed completely I over compensated and have since had several left leg injuries, i.e. hip (ongoing), hamstring (ongoing), and foot. Swimming will serve you well. :)

Thanks Fritz. It is way frustrating, what was your main exercise that you did that seemed to help out the most? I roll quite often and stretch but not seeming to help right now.

Hey did you try the aqua jogging?

I went to PT for a couple of months but that didn't seem to help so I stopped going. I even went to an orthopedic surgreon because I couldn't understand why it wasn't getting better. In hindsight, and as frustrating as it might be, I think the fastest way to heal it is to prevent it from flaring up at all. Although I wasn't running for several months the biking and cross-training was still irritating it just enough to delay the recovery. Knowing what I know now I should have just been swimming for a few weeks.

Angie I haven't tried it yet. Going to try on Tuesday.

Fritz I can't agree with you more. Swimming is a killer workout and it looks like that my part of my daily routine for the next little bit. Thanks for the advice. I starting with some anti-inflammatory creams today also so maybe that will help too.

You are doing the right stuff, Ben. You need more rest and some serious cross-training. I've been there -- once I had IT band syndrome for 9 months. Brutal. I really don't think yours will last that long if you play it smart. Sorry you're struggling.
